    Five people dead.
Due to the ridiculous ideas you're hinting at.
    There's nothing humorous at all.

    Good luck with that.

2021 saw the sad passing of Bossman. He was savaged by his wife after months of being a passive aggressive arsehole. A video of his behaviour was played in court and his wife was acquitted on all charges. She was later given a medal the size of a dustbin lid for lasting so long without giving him a proper shoeing.

No Churton. I don’t find people being killed in the slightest bit funny. It is you I find as an amusement.

In the face of blind ignorance and sheer stupidity I find it is often the best way to go.

    Give it a go.

Well I don't actually think anything's coming, Mr Casual. I get why Trump is a desperate man. He faces very serious legal issues from Noon on 20 January. I don't think the 25th Amendment or the potential impeachment are actually going anywhere except for the vote in the Lower House. McConnell will stall any further progress. But I think he faces an absolute meteor storm of criminal, civil and tax cases after a week on Wednesday. As regards any further unlawful attempts to cling to power, his card has been well and truly marked. The steel barriers are already going up in Washington, and the authorities (Police and military) will be watching his next moves studiously, no doubt spurred on by the inadequacy of the initial response on Wednesday.

Five people are lying in morgues as a result of his actions this week, and that didn't need to happen. I think the more America reviews the events of Wednesday the more shocked it will become. And given that sensible, ordinary Americans are still in the majority (and the thug element is actually a minority of Trump's total support) I feel confident that action will be taken to prevent him ever getting anywhere near running for office again.

Yes I can sense that you’re afraid. Don’t worry though Churton. It will all work out OK in the end.

You think five people are dead. I can assure that at least one of the people you think is dead, Ashli Babbitt, certainly isn’t. You should track down the video footage of her being shot in the neck. It’s actually quite laughable, although fairly well acted by those involved.

I feel confident that Trump will still be President beyond 20th January 2021 and won’t face any charges, criminal or civil. I don’t expect to change your mind on that today so we will just have to agree to differ for now. I will welcome the opportunity to have the discussion with you in a couple of week’s time though.

Appreciating that people have widely polarised views in these actually scary times, i think this thread is demonstrating how any individual can be radicalised by only believing the writing, postings or repeated messages of a demagogue.
On one side the US election has been confirmed as accurate by independent adjudicators, proven in the courts, state colleges have accepted it and now congress has formally approved the result in line with the legal governance and constitution.

On the other side an individual and supporters have laid the groundwork for over a year by repeating incessantly that the ballot will be fraudulent with no evidence to support the claim. And before people leap to the defence of the these claims, i am going by what was presented to over 60 courts of various states since the election. If this evidence was real and of substance it would have been presented to the courts. It wasn't so we can safely assume it doesn't exist.

That people of all intellects, creeds, genders, beliefs etc can be convinced to believe such widely held misconceptions is genuinely worrying for the way the world is going to be governed into the future if democracy, freedom of speech, liberty and the other life structures we hold so dear are to prevail

It might be added that many of the judges rejecting the claims (and indeed many of the election officials challenged) were Republican appointees, but thankfully not ones who had been brainwashed by Trump's megalomania. That is probably not unrelated to their intelligence. People who ingest the lies and propaganda put out largely via social media can't be reasoned with. It's only possible to have a rational debate with people who are, well.... rational! But I get troubled by apologists who offer some defence of Trump's behaviour on the grounds that it is presenting the alternative view. Hatred, racism and misogyny are not things to be accepted tolerantly. They need to be driven out. 'Free speech' is not unfettered - it always comes with responsibilities too. Let's hope we have begun the progress to a kinder, saner world, but let's defend that progress with vigour.

Of course there will, it’s a certainty.

The only thing we’re not certain of is whether this poor individual actually has been brainwashed by these fascists or whether he’s just trolling the BBS.

History teaches us that whichever of those is the truth, he’s a Mayfly in the grand scheme of things, I’ll happily wager he’ll not be here to discuss the summer transfer window.

Who is the demagogue? Trump?? He’s certainly do demagogue to me.

Just because something sounds implausible and far-fetched doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t true. You just have to battle past the cognitive dissonance. I’m not suggesting that some of you won’t find it extremely difficult to break free from decades of media gaslighting and social programming but when you manage to get past all that you will feel much better for it.

It’s interesting that you mention freedom of speech. I’m sure that the contributors to this thread would argue that this is a freedom worth fighting for, yet at the same time to a man they desperately try to shut down anyone who holds a different viewpoint and are positively gleeful that Trump’s Twitter was closed down.
