respect to you, furthest south I ever got was leicester season after, the 80/81 season every away game seamed miles away Exeter the furthest I think, the lads clocked up some miles

Lovely. So humble & intelligent. My hero when I first went to Oakwell.
Kirk Balkers could go to Sylvesters for a hair cut & ask for an Ian Banks..:)

    Me, too.
Earlier that campaign, we went to Plymouth, Portsmouth & Exeter in the Autumn for three consecutive away matches. We won them all!:D

Thighs like a dray horse. That free kick in front of Ponty on a cold Tuesday night. Can’t remember too much, was very young. Clipped underside of cross bar & went in. If it had hit flush, he would have broken it..:)

Ah, Memories! As Banger rattled off the names of the team, the memories came flooding back. I don't remember a lot of individual games, but I remember the players. Unlike Big Lil, who seems to remember the games, scorers, the weather, the seat he was in, etc. :)

I may have mentioned this before, but I was in the year above Ian at Mexborough Grammar. The first time I saw him play was for the school, We had reached a schools final and played at the ground opposite Mexborough Secondary Modern, in the days before we merged. We were all given the afternoon off and the whole school went down to watch the team. I believe we won, but as I said, my memory is not great.

I was there and I still can’t believe it. Colin Walker scored twice in the first half and we should have had six. Second half Joe Waters did to us what Glavin did to them in the first half.

Any Ian Banks chants? The only one I remember was Ian Banks, Banks, Banks! Ian Banks, Banks, Banks!

Oh, and when he got the ball within shooting range people would just scream Hit It!

"We'll take more care of you,
    Ian Banks, Ian Banks"
to the tune from a British Airways commercial at the time. The lyrics 'Fly the flag' were simply changed to Ian Banks.

    Probably. It does sound plausible.
