They completely blew us out of the water when we were both in for Lee Gregory. The difference was huge...
Keep or sell Mowatt and Barnsley aren't going down. Also, presumably the club have their eye on a replacement - in house or buyable - since they have known for a long time what the situation is. I, for one, am not concerned one way or the other.
We really need to find a way to reward our better players after they’ve proved their worth. Surely we can afford to pay the captain or top goal scorer a salary close enough for them to consider staying. £12k a week at Barnsley with a guaranteed start and relatively cheap cost of living would surely be an offer worth considering compared with warming the bench at Reading. We aren’t an attractive club, but need to be able to compete with the likes of QPR, Millwall, Preston etc. if we’re ever going to be comfortable in this league.
That does have a value and seems to be a big part of the overall plan which makes it more than likely that we'll end up taking whatever we can get for him, presuming we can't persuade him to sign a new deal.
I don't think it's so much that Mowett is leaving, more like the damage that will be done to the team as a whole. Losing a first choice midfield duo that has contributed to wrestling a team odds on for relegation up to the brink of the playoffs will be a huge loss. The coaching team will have to start afresh bedding in a new partnership with a really difficult run of games coming up. If a new duo comes in and we go on a losing run, then it can end in tragedy. They say losing, breeds more losses. If the new midfielders come in and get into the losing habit, it will be difficult to get them out of it.
How do we know there's any credibility in this? I know the owners have previous but nothing seemingly from any of the local journos that I've seen?
You may be correct of course but youre assuming the team will be damaged. It is feasible that any replacement may possibly make the team better overall. We dont know at this moment in time though. We'll have to see. Then of course there is the fee/lack of fee and any potential subsequent dip in form if he decides to stay...All supposition, including my own view.
I hear the sticking point is that he still wants to retain rights purchasing to Fish & Chips in the South Yorkshire region, if he leaves.
