Some of the tabloid press misunderstood the joint fee. Even Hecky is on record that he lost his captain for £1M.
Typical BBS, this. Remember when Woodrow left for 500k in the summer? Stop bashing the club based off unsubstantiated rumours.
With James gone and if Mowatt leaves that would leave us with a very young inexperienced midfield. Hard decision what with low income this year.
He has 6 months to run on his contract, if he's refused to sign a new contract and the club receive an offer of £1m+ then IMO he will be sold. I've been very critical of the owners previously, but not sure what else they can do in this situation. Given the bleak economic outlook then i don't believe we can turn down that sort of money.
Rob staton, doug o kane, radio Sheffield and the journos work close with clubs, players and players agents they are in the know with all the transfer stuff. I alway trust radio Sheffield on transfers. Never seen or remember hearing hecky say that but If hecky told me the weather I'd have a look for myself.
If you look at Bree and Hourihane's transfer fees on Transfermarkt, you'll notice they both show £3.15M. A strange amount to be the same for each player. There's also this from a Hecky interview. It isn't the one where he actually mentions £1M, but reference is made by the interviewer to the £3M package. https://www.theleaguepaper.com/featured/7439/big-interview-barnsley-boss-paul-heckingbottom/ Here's a local West Midlands journo interviewing Hourihane and referencing the £1M move as well. https://www.expressandstar.com/spor...ane-off-hes-proved-the-doubters-wrong-before/
Pleased to see Doug O'Kane's tweet above. However, if we do receive bids and he isn't willing to sign a contract, in this environment I'd support selling him in this window. I just hope that we are already investigating potential replacements as completing the rest of the season with Kane / Styles / Palmer would be a risk. Unless of course we recall Ritzy
I'm not even going to bother to read what the man who deemed adam jackson to be a better defender than etan pinnock, loaned mowatt out after playing him as a winger and told us he had watched ike ugbo and belived he could score goals in the championship has to say. But the other one is interesting but I showed you the mirror ones there are various ones by the sun claiming bree was sold the week previous for 2.5 million and conor for around 3 nixon is reliable so are radio Sheffield and didnt patrick get asked about it in the fans meetings he did. If we get 1millon for mowatt we have done well imo.
In the current climate and his contract situation, take the million put it towards a replacement ideally whiteman and move on. Alex has been a big part of our promotion under stendel, retaining our championship status last season and our current position hes been a good servant for the club. Cash in move on if he wants to go.
I think this is a situation similar to Scowen and Watkins. We aren't going to make a big profit on him - in fact we may only break even - so keeping him for the rest of the season is actually the best value. We've got our money's worth out of him.
If we can't replace mowatt and finish above wycombe, Wednesday, rotherham and Derby i despair. Just my opinion but If he wants to leave id cash in and put the money towards a decent replacement like I said whiteman would be a good one.
Very true and I do agree to point but that's not how football clubs are run. You could turn down the money and the lad break his leg the day after.
