Accounting for that. Hardly prime, that far out. It isn’t Kensington & Chelsea. & includes a percentage of affordable, social housing. Plus it’s on an undesirable busy flight path. Highbury was more relatively more valuable real estate & the Emirates still cost a fortune..
And see they've sold Styles for a million Mowatt for half a million in the last 30 minutes of the window and failed to sign replacements because the fax broke.
If you’ve been to Griffin Park you’ll know they’re coming into land & really noisy. More interesting that the football at times..
1) There's been a pandemic and almost no revenue has been generated for what will be an entire calendar year plus. 2) Styles will likely want to go and would indicate as much if a bid is received. 3) He's certainly a real real prospect but I wouldn't say he's a proven Championship star (yet). What's he played 40 games? And he's only 20. 4) Toney wasn't sold for anywhere near the suggested 10 million so I can't see Brentford paying that for CS. I admire your optimism but >5 million would swing it in my opinion, particularly given the circumstances (if we are considering selling him, that is, which I obviously hope we don't).
True. They couldn’t have foreseen that.. I doubt that money is available, if it’s still in the club.. & it wouldn’t have come in all at once.
The whole of West London is under the Heathrow flight path. Brentford is just 10 miles from central London, believe me that's prime real estate,25 minutes into Waterloo. Brentford's new ground at Lionel Road is no Emirates, about 17500 capacity v 60,000 at Arsenal. They did very well out of their ground sale
So then we don't sell him, he's got potentially 3 and a half years left on his contract so it's not like he can bugger about for a few months and then leave on a free.
Good post Baka. Puts the right perspective on the issue and puts context re where we are as a club. Re making Brentford (or anyone else) bleed....£15m with add ons. That would be tempting. However I dont want the lad to go anywhere. Thought he was a top talent ever since we saw him break through. As a club we've nurtured him, shown patience with his development and blooded him at the right time (thought he could have been given a chance a bit sooner however). Really hope we can keep hold.
Apart from the centre, where planes aren't supposed to fly over, most of London has a flight path, or a stack. I live miles away from heathrow, but 70% of the time (in normal times based on typical wind direction) id have an aircraft starting its final approach every 30 seconds. And the 30% of the time you might have something circling for Gatwick or taking off/ landing for City airport. You get used to it, though the whining as it slows if directly overhead is a bit of a pain.
Exactly. The idea that a player is only worth what a club is willing to pay is only relevant if you actually want to sell
That's fair enough. I do see us trying to recoup the lost revenue from the pandemic, which is why I think Mowatt is likely to be sold. Dane has said on a number of occasions that Styles (along with Simoes) is our most promising young player, and therefore I feel everything will be done to hold onto him until at least the summer. I think the vast majority of deals will be done in a similar way to the Toney deal, as it guarantees a long term revenue stream to the selling club. I read West Brom are paying £2.5m per year to Huddersfield for Karlan Grant, for the next 6 years. I'd certainly be open to something similar if we were to sell one of our key players, as it negates the need to constantly turn players over every window, like we've done in the past.
Wouldn’t come in all at once, no. But then they don’t have to pay us all at once either and in turn we don’t have to pay for the replacement all at once. I don’t see much point getting obsessed with figures. I expect if he is sold we will get told “club record fee” and that’s that. Anything else is speculation. Judge by who is brought in as replacement, not by what speculation tells us the fee is.
I honestly think we've come a long way though in the last couple of years. We're in a position finally where we're not losing half the squad, as they're out of contract (or in the last 6 months of contract) every window like we did when everyone was offered a 2 year deal. Styles is a good example to use, as his value could well be much higher in the summer if we turn down bids this window for him. In the past, we'd spend 18 months getting a player up to his best, and then selling them cheap in the final 6 months of their contract. We don't seem to be doing that now, even Mowatt has extended his contract twice before we've got to this situation.
So we gave away Jacob Brown and 8000 season tickets? Not to mention ifollow income or the £6m income from retaining our championship status?
Any mention of another club’s finances always gets me excited. Brentford in their accounts to 2019 had a revaluation on their land owned to £37m and also booked a profit for the sale of additional land of £13m. So broadly a £50m land value prior to the disposal. Although they only have around 5,500 season ticket holders they have one season ticker holder who has lent the club over £100m. A much smaller club by support but operating at a different level financially.
Point 2 isn't a definite, largely because of point 3. He's going to start every game he's available here, Brentford won't be able to offer him that. If we were to accept an offer, it would have to be one that would fund a new left back and updated contracts for a number of the squad. Not just Mowatt, but players like Mads who might start to attract interest soon. As well as balancing the books.
