PL Meeting with all captains and managers to set out celebrations protocol.

Worried Government will intervene if they're not tightened up.

I'm not sure how I stand on this issue. Know the thinking behind it but defensive walls, marking at corners etc.

I reckon this could be another nail in the 'season curtailment' coffin.

    Thoughts ........

They should be allowed to mix fully during games but clubs/fa/efl should have to test all players with rapid results tests every day.

Pep, Wilder and Woy saying they don't think players could non celebrate in a huddle.........

Just heard someone make a valid point. We see each week a player who scores against a former club and refuses to celebrate..........

Footballers in the top two leagues and the direct staff are the most tested members of UK society and in real terms the actual level of infection is minimal.

For example, the EPL between the 4th and 10th completed 2593 tests. only 36 returned positive.

A number of clubs are using the Covid rules to rest players over the Christmas period...

Perhaps the highly paid management of the EPL could wear their big boy pants for a few days and let them get on with playing and celebrating how they choose instead of having a panic.

I wonder is this is more about messaging to the general public, as you are right contact happens in loads of situations in play.

I think it is. Footballers out partying, spreading Corona as reported in the press and Joe public feeling they are a law to themselves.

Listening to Simon Jordan. He is of the opinion it is. It's the public persona. But if that is the reason for it imo is flawed and slightly hypocritical when for the rest of the 90 mins they are in constant contact. ?!?

Almost certainly it is. I can see why too to be honest. We're all football fans so we excuse it but it was a sport or some other form of entertainment that I had no interest it I'd probably feel a bit miffed at seeing that advertised on the tele/all over social media whilst not able to see my family and friends too.

It’s nonsense. If you want to stop contact, you need to stop football.

Cancel football . Listening to my wife’s stories from working on ICU send a shiver down my back . It’s just not worth it . Average age on her ICU is 48 with no underlining health conditions . These footballers have families too

It's a nonsense. The absolute levels we go to as football clubs is staggering.

    No celebrations? Give over.

Either be bold and as a government tell football to shut down (they won't, as they'd need to financially help then) or leave the game to keep on controlling things as best as it can. Because it's done a far better job than the Tories have of this pandemic. Haven't most of these ghouls we see on TV every day contracted the virus anyway? Were they hugging each other celebrating another child not getting fed? Despicable cŪnTs.

I agree, but a lot of things are symbolic in high level sport, as players are role models for young people. Similarly teams walking out separately on to the pitch instead of side by side. At the end of the day football is on, or it's off. We've had that argument on another thread, with valid points made on both sides.

If the Govt find goal celebrations as a major concern, that shows how ****** we are.

Fully, ten thousand percent agree on the government stuff but rightly or wrongly footballers are role models and celebrating in the way they are isn’t a good example to be setting. Fair enough, they can’t do their job without playing football as they are footballers but celebrating isn’t a necessary part of their job. It’s enjoyable, yes, but that’s not a good enough reason to run everyone’s face in it when no-one else gets to do stuff that’s enjoyable but isn’t integral to their job. They can celebrate in a different way for a while, even if they still did fist bumps for some contact. There’s plenty of daft celebrations teams have done previously like the reeling the fish one in (although I think they pick a player up in that one). Get creative and do some memorable celebrations, different ones that they get to show off when they score (similar to those gifs Bristol City did other year) but in real life. If we’re the first to do it you can get some good media coverage for the club too.

If the players take it upon themselves to tone down celebrations, or stop them altogether, then that's their call. As I say, I don't see it as an issue personally.

How many players celebrated with Mowatt the day before he tested positive? None of those appear to have caught the virus from him.

The Government should concentrate on places that will likely spread the virus, rather than footballers that have been regularly tested celebrating goals, or friends standing a distance from each other while they drink coffee on a walk.

That said, I can see why people were annoyed at the Chorley celebrations in the dressing room.

This. Sometimes it's not just about the thing itself. It is about the message. Some sort of Covid, "we're all in it together" celebrations my enforce the message.

The key with football is the testing & players doing the right thing off the pitch. Any that aren't deserve the most draconian punishment.

Completely agree. It's just a bit of a **** look when they're hugging when they don't need to, when there's folk who can't hug their dying relatives. Footballers might be getting tested a lot but we're having numberous games called off every week due to the infection getting into clubs, surely it just makes sense to cut any unnecessary contact out from a health and PR point of view.
