I’m not going to get too excited, the senate needs a 2/3 majority to convict and they’re not even going to take the case until the 19th as they’re out of session until then. So he’s not going to be removed from office. The title of “impeached twice” is good, though.

If the senate convicts after he leaves office, that will stop him from running again in 2024, it will also remove his lifetime secret service, his lifetime $1million a year travel allowance and his $200,000 a year pension.

What a surprise. Trump has decided not to pay Rudy his $20,000 per day fees. Rudy is denying ever having asked for that much although one of his staff wrote the letter setting out the
terms. White House now blocking Rudy's calls.

In the meantime the President is fretting about his "brand" and Ivanka has changed her mind about attending the inauguration. We're going to miss all this stuff when Joe takes over.

I think there is a stronger chance of a conviction after he's left office so the delay might actually be a good thing.

His belated and rather hollow renunciation of violence at this stage is designed to try and shore up his legal defence by arguing that he never wanted it in the first place, and that his latter statements confirm this. He might have to get someone else to argue it for him though, because Guiuliani, Powell and other lawyers implicated in his unconstitutional activites are now being investigated with a view to disbarment.

I'm inclined to think that last Wednesday was his best last shot at clinging to power. He showed his hand, and now Washington is teeming with Police and troops. I don't doubt there will be more unrest in Washington and in many other state capitals. But none of it will prevent Trump from being out of office in six days' time. It will however lead to continuing division and bitterness in wider America. The key question is: how many of Trump's supporters are the hardcore nutjacks? That's what the authorities will have to assess.

I think that politically, Trump's star will soon fade once he is out of office. There is still an element of fear among his politician supporters, but the solidarity will crumble further once he leaves office next Wednesday. It was breathtaking that some of the Republican representatives opposing impeachment yesterday in the interests of healing division were the same people who voted against the constitution and for Trump's big lie even after the violence and rioting in Congress last Wednesday. History will not judge them well.

No, the loser is dragging his feet and refusing to donate to charity even though he lost the bet so the winner cancelled the bet and donated the money himself.

 

Surely both parties to the bet need to agree before it can be cancelled and I objected, therefore it still stands.

The bet will be settled on 20th January 2021 when the outcome of the Presidential race is certain.

I won’t be calling on you to make good on buying that Sheffield Wednesday 10 year season ticket until then either.

Imagine the betting companies announcing they were paying out early on the premier League winners with a team 20 points clear at the top in march.

So Trumps lawyers don’t get paid (because they didn’t win) and now risk being disbarred (because he actively encouraged them to break the law).

And the ringing truth is that there’s nothing unique in this story. It is literally the story of this crooks career. Develop a scam - succeed, pocket the profits and move on to the next.
Fail and refuse to pay contractors, take it to court, lose and refuse to pay lawyers too.

it’s barely even worthy of a mention: this is who he is, the fact that this time he scammed millions of racists he purports to represent, rather than the business community he purports to represent is the nearest thing to ‘unique’ about it.
