if we finish as a top half side then that would be a good acheivment, and most on here would have taken that at the start of the season too.
Much improved this season so would be overjoyed at finishing in top half when staying up would have been the ultimate goal. Let’s learn from this and move on. Swansea don’t look that much better than us at all.
Next step for me mate. Which is brilliant. We just need to finish our chances. I honestly think we're 2 or 3 players off
It’s all about quality in the key moments and a bit of luck. Just like v Norwich we had chance for first blood. Thomas hit the bar at Norwich and Victor had a rush of blood today instead of playing cauley in on goal. Chance wasted in a tight half. Quality counts at the back too, and the nature and timing of Swansea’s opener was anything but quality and it had them coming out for the kill after half time. Can’t fault the lads effort, but we can unravel at any time, which is very frustrating, but par for the course with a relatively cheaply assembled and young side. Plan is still to get to safety ASAP, anything else will be a bonus.
Was just about to come in and say "but we're also miles off being relegation fodder". Great minds. A poor performance tonight, as has been usual against the top 6 (except Watford), but there have been more wins than losses and in the championship that is such a rarity for us.
I've come away from watching us play 2nd in Championship, frustrated that we've not got anything from a game we were on top i at times. That denotes huge progress from last July.
We've come on leaps and bounds since last June. We're doing very well to be in the top half of the table. We will easily finish mid table this season
We didn’t actually create anything last night though. There wasn’t really a missed chance as you’d probably point to Vic not squaring it for Woodrow and Chaplin being blocked in a crowded area as our best moments. I think we’re an extremely difficult team to look good against unless you’re packed with speed and quality like Brentford/Bournemouth. We don’t dwell on the ball and we play the territory game underpinned by an amazingly high work rate and press, which leads to some of the better teams being stifled against us and the game being competitive (and us also thinking ‘they’re not that good’). But we’re way off as an attacking force right now and anything Top Ten would be a superb achievement and platform to build on for next season. I’m in favour of our preference to go long whenever the extra pass or extra touch might lead to us giving the ball away in our own half. But the amount of times Mowatt and Kane were under zero pressure and with space in front of them, yet still went aimlessly long, was frustrating. And you can guarantee if it was happening with 10,000 Reds Fans at Oakwell the groans would be heard in Wakefield.
