Covid restrictions only work if people comply with them. Just been in post office in my area. Put on my mask when in front of me is a woman about 25 nips in front . No mask on . So I let her go in and then a minute later go in to find her being served by two guys with full face masks on. Out she trots and i come to pay. Why are you serving people without masks I ask? So they shrug shoulders and I swipe my card and leave. Why do some people regardless of age,sex ,or colour or creed think the govt regulations don't apply to them? Both parties at fault. One for not wearing a mask in a shop and the others for putting profit over principles.

New Zealand has only had 25 and last week had a music festival, attended by 22,500 people. They have just had their first community transit Covid-19 case, this was after being in quarantine for 2 weeks and found to be clear. In NZ,when you return to the country you are placed in a hotel for 2 weeks in isolation, food is brought to your room and you have 1 hour exercise in the grounds. The person who they believe is positive has returned from europe and has the virulent SA strain. Because of this 1 case,Australia has closed the Air Travel Bubble between the 2 countries. 1 case and they close the border. Compare how other countries have managed the Pandemic and you realise that the English government should be arrested. Along with ex President Trump.

But we have some idiots on here wanting to open up. That's the trouble with this country if government do nothing they are in the wrong people saying we should lockdown. If the government locks us down, everybody wants to open up . They cannot win, no matter which party was in power. The press and media think they run every thing in UK

Once again I have a read a thread where the experts of the BBS are out in force , I cannot believe the powers that be in this country do not take notice , in fact I will go further than that , all the counties in the world that are struggling with the pandemic & the world health organisation should just log on here , pick a few brains & hey presto we will be back to normal in the blink of an eye , sorted !

As far as I’m aware, those were only ever intended as critical care beds - not general COVID beds.

Once you get into ICU, you only have something like a 20% chance of surviving.

Taiwan have a much higher population density than the UK. They have had 7 deaths, the last was in May. It amazes me that there are people who still think Johnson and the Incompetents are doing a good job.

Thats true. Trouble is alot of people think if they don't like summat then the rule doesn't apply to them. Govt today being badgered into a date to ease some restrictions. Can't win.

They did what we should have done if any of our politicians had any ballax. My pal in western Australia missed a total of 2 weeks at work and his kids missed 3 weeks of school. They were paid around £500 a week for being off which everyone adhered to. Anyone entering western Australia gets escorted to a hotel room for 2 weeks which they pay between 2-2.5 grand for.
The result is complete daily normality apart from travelling which if you know the rules beforehand, you can make an informed decision about.
This panfemic has highlighted how weak and inept our politicians are. Because of this, my wife has been at risk at work for the last 11 months, my oldest 2 kids are going to get worse a levels and gcse than they would have got and my parents have lost a year of their lives they could ill afford to waste.
    Absolute ******* disgrace.

I wish people would stop saying this. There aren't any restrictions, they're carrying on with life just as it always was. Hardly anything has changed. No compulsory mask wearing, nothing. How do I know? I was there in March. I talk to someone who lives there every day. They shut the border, that's all they did. It hadn't got in and they didn't let it in. Because of the very few cases they do get then track and trace can work. Very strict restrictions? There's none. There's a lot of people going out of business because there's no tourists but no restrictions.

And incidentally, when they shut the borders they also shut them to any Australians who weren't in the country leaving hundreds of thousands stranded abroad. There's still tens of thousands, literally in poverty begging on the streets of the countries they were abandoned in. New Zealand did the same. How do I know that? Because there's a Kiwi living at me dad's house 'cos he couldn't get home.

I wish people would actually read about stuff before talking about it.

Australia did have lockdown. Maybe not where you were in March or where your friend lives but they did have it.

Victoria had some restrictions, my cousin lives and works there who I speak to regularly so I know what happened, but it's simply nothing like here.

Edit: Christ on a bike. My edit is to change Queensland, that I originally wrote, to Victoria. I've been there to see her, you'd think I knew where she lived!

It's pathetic how the media have been stirring everyone up today with "When can we do this" and "When can we do that". They help to put the pressure on, so they lift too much too soon and then swing the other way when cases start to rise again. It's ******* January with only 6 million vaccinated. There's no way we've got top side of this yet.

Oz and nz also have a lot more sunlight and warmer temps which is good for immune systems from vitamin d etc. Not a coincidence our flu sesaon comes and goes in line with daylight hours and cold temps imho. Diet, health and age of population distribution will also come into it but i feel vitamin d is a biggy. Im taking supplements now and not had a bug since but then again im not really going anywhere! Looking forward to the times we can all mix again.

When the second wave hit Melbourne, residents were confined to their homes for 100 days, allowed out for exercise only. They were allowed to exercise for up to two hours mind.
Mask wearing has been compulsory in Victoria and is still required in large shops, malls etc. Non essential businesses had to close. Cinemas, beaches and play areas closed. Pubs, restaurants and cafes weren’t allowed sitting customers but were allowed to deliver or serve takeaways. Social distancing had to be observed whilst waiting for food, as had mask wearing. The vast majority complied with restrictions.
It simply isn’t the case that Australia closed borders and Carried on as normal. Sorry Jay

Australian scientist saying 90 percent of people tested positive are carrying hardly any virus and this is not a pandemic,as 50 million people died of Spanish flu out of a world population of 1.8 billion, said for this to be a pandemic there would have had to have been 250 million die world wide, it gets crazier by the day

Australia isn't Victoria. It's Tasmania and New South Wales and Queensland and Northern Territory and Western Australia and South Australia and Victoria and there hasn't been any kind of national lockdown in Australia. There hasn't been anything like the kind of restrictions we've had here. Before I went to bed last night I spoke to my friend who lives in Glebe, Sydney. SHe was going to the gym with her daughter. They then went out for lunch and to the cinema. Those were the messages I got overnight. And then we talked before I went to work, after they'd been shopping. You don't need to apologise mate, I know exactly what restrictions they're under. None.
