Yeah, I don't have a specific answer though I tend to think it would have been better targeted. Some who haven't lost money will just stick two grand in their bank account with no knock on stimulus to the economy.

It tends to be a lot faster to just get the money out and worry about it later.

In my opinion what should have happened is UBI to everyone, but then those that are lucky enough to work throughout pay it back in the next tax year. I don't know if that's the plan in the US, I don't believe it is. They've had $2,000 and then $600 so far, with (very likely) another $1,400 to come and talk of a monthly recurring check, but not approved yet.

I was looking at the replies figure but yes Jam Drop gets the 4000th post. Gutted to sat the least but it's been a team effort and means the 4000th post was the last on the 200th page. Think I got a touch on it just before it crossed the line. VAR job.

I’ve watched all 4 documentaries recently, I use to think how are people taken in by all the Scientology rubbish...then I watched Trump supporters.

The deep states doing a great job. Of all the people arrested following the Capitol riots, not one has been an Antifa infiltrator, just loads of white supremacists saying trump told them to do it. o_O

It seems he was right all along, they really have got it in for him.

One of the big problems with means testing is that it's not perfect and some that really should get the money and are absolutely desperate for it don't. It happens with our benefits system all the time. Giving it to everyone isn't perfect either, for many reasons, but there is a good argument that it's both cheaper and ensures that all those in need actually get something. In an ideal world that pot of money would be distributed fairly dependent on need but it's so difficult to do. There is an often overlooked and under reported consequence of giving it to everyone. There are many who choose to give it away, to distribute it themselves by giving to charity or helping others directly.

Unless those with a closer eye on US affairs have a different view, it seems to me that the upshot of recent events is: 1)There is no chance of a 2/3 majority conviction in the impeachment trial; 2) The filibuster tactic appears to remain in force, promising another four years of Republican obstructionism; 3) Trump would appear to retain his thrall over the Republican Party and is re-grouping. A fairly disappointing state of affairs, to my mind. The only saving grace(s) is/are that we have a rest for four years and Joe Biden is used to working within an administration that has to pursue it's aims largely through executive orders.

With the added hope as well, though this isn't always the case, that the stimulus check is spent and not saved and therefore trickles through somewhere for the greater good of those struggling.

Don't think anyone without a registered bank account linked to an ID number gets one. I initially thought it was a cheque through the post but I'm sure my girlfriend said it just appears in your bank account one day. No bank account. No deposit.
