I'm in no doubt

 

Could i transfer all the stuff off my vic 20 onto a macbook?

 

I,be had quite a few apple products nowt to touch em for reliability and build.

 

Have you thought of updating the ram... you’ll probably get another 10 years out of it...

 

I had a 2006 MacBook which was amazing. Got me through Uni and beyond. It still works and performs quite well. I updated to a MacBook Pro around 2013... but it never worked well. Just updated the ram due to lockdown and it’s not too bad at all.

If you’ve got other apple products, the interface is generally seamless... but they are pricey.

 

I prefer a big mac

 

Totally understand. There’s always a couple of bad apples. Was one a Mrs Miggin’s pie.? & a Weak power plug, that cost £70 to replace. ?

Would you advice going brand new then or trying to pick up a good second hand one?

I’ve got a a 2016 MacBook Pro which cost me £3500 and is still going strong and has been around the world with me on about 30 flights. Brilliant laptop which I use for music production.

I’ve also just bought the M1 Mac Mini with upgrades on Memory, which I got for 1200 (without the upgrade they’re about 900). If your daughter as a decent screen/tv in her room I’d advocate getting the Mac mini. For a similar spec Mac book itd be double the cost.

Imho the Mac OS is way ahead of Windows. I use windows for work and it’s utterly dog turd in comparison.

 

Each to their own but give me windows any day over Crapple.

 

Not even close to being correct as someone who spends about 16 hours a day using both.

 

I'd go for a Windows laptop mate if I'm totally honest. I work in IT and have never had much good experience with Mac's but others may say different. My opinion head to Curry's and get a decent spec Windows laptop.

 

And yet it does not even support dual monitors which many people use for productivity. Performance benchmark comparisons look good but in everyday use most people wont see a difference from a Zenbook. Distinctly lacking ports compared to many other Tablets .. Battery life good but, again, only marginally better than some laptops/tablest. Apple has its fans but many are loyal form the days when it was, without doubt leading edge in innovation which it no longer is andso can no longer justify the ridiculously high prices largely because of their distribution and sales strategy. Admittedly, they are pretty much the de facto standard for music and media production (my daughter who works in the gaming industry has had a succesion of them) but for most people the price difference vs performance does not justify the cost over many good laptop/tablets. They tend to be a status thing from many people. For a student, accountants, teachers and most businesses PCs /Win10 is still the way to go.

 

That's your opinion, I've used both & mine differs to yours, that's all.
