Hello all! Long time reader here, first time poster.....

Quick thought on Schmidt. With Morris and Dike coming in, do we finally have the personnel to play to his strengths?

Clearly his physicality is lacking for the championship, and also isn't particularly fast. What he does have is technical ability and finishing in the box.

A front 3 of Morris/Dike with Schmidt in the middle could give us the opportunity to get down the channels and provide balls into the box. The physicality of Morris and Dike would allow us to play to Schmidt's strengths, and negate his weakness'. Perhaps this is why he didn't go out on loan.

I know first choice for this position is Woodrow, and rightly so, but after our conversion rates for the last couple of years different options are certainly welcome! Also, it seems like we put a bit of money into him, so we need to see some ROI.

    Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

Murphy said in the Radio Sheffield interview that they were exploring options for Schmidt and that there had been interest in Austria. Whether thats just a loan or something more permanent, we'll have to wait and see.

I think Woodrow, Morris and Dike are all more likely to be used in the central role ahead of Schmidt. While Morris, Dike, Vic, Chaplin and Frieser are ahead of him for the wider roles. I think he’s even behind Miller in the pecking order.

You'd play Schmidt ahead of Woodrow?

No, but under this system I think he could be an option coming off the bench for the last 25 mins.

Scored some important goals last season in the last 10 mins, and provided the assist for Odour I believe.

Hi, I see what you mean and it’s interesting. Dike says he is used to being the target man (but will play anywhere) and if he is in that role there might be more opportunities for Schmidt and others so Woodrow doesn’t always have to play the full 90 minutes. Presumably Dike will be an impact sub himself for a while though.

Exactly, I think part of Woodrow's issue this season is he's been asked to shoulder leading the line for the last year without any real break. Think we would see fresher, better Woodrow with a bit of rest/rotation.

So they want him on his skis then.

Can't see him playing for us ever again if so.

Was it the QPR game when his "finisher" logo faded rather quickly?

Till then we had much to thank him for - we are in this division thanks to him.

There is definitely a player in there, i hope we can get the best out of him instead of giving up on him and someone else getting the benefit.

I agree if Woodrow gets injured or a rest i would like to see Schmidt playing in and around Dike and Morris.

I dont see Frieser, Chaplin, Miller, Vic being a better choice in that Woodrow role with those 2.

    Woodrow first choice though everytime.

I like Schmidt. I don't think we've seen the best of him, not by a long way. Strikes me as bring quite an intelligent footballer, composed in front of goal and gets into good positions. Until now, we've not really suited his style of play, but I don't think the OP's suggestion is as daft as some might think.

Hope he goes, as much as for his own interests as for BFC. Continental striker that sits on the shoulder. Not really our style. You get breaks by hanging off, not pressing. Wrong fit for the team. I wish him well.

Sorry but he is a powder puff striker and unfortunately George Miller is not championship or even league 1 standard.

    He’s a modern-day Nardiello in some respects.

Not the quickest, not the strongest, but probably one of the best finishers in the club I believe.

I think we’ve tried to work on his game, and Schmidt admitted to this in the programme earlier this season.

Trouble is, without much playing time, it’s hard to showcase any improvement.

He needs to go out and play 1st team football now to kick on his career. If he does come back, we can make a decision then.

I like Schmidt. He's scored some really important goals for us with very little service. I reckon alongside Woodrow and Dike he's a better scoring chance than guys who've had way more chances than him.

I always think of Milan Baros when I think of Schmidt.
Baros was clearly a talented player but never really hit the same levels at Liverpool as he did for his Country and other clubs.
I think there is a player in there and think you are right we currently just don’t suit him.

He may have not had much time on the field, but he certainly scored some very important goals for us.

He missed what, 3,4...5 against qpr? Then started at Cardiff and fluffed a couple more. I don’t think we’ve seen him much at all since then.

I doubt he’s in Vals plans, just very difficult to get rid.
