Is ice scaring a sport? Discuss.

My view is that anything that has to be marked is not really sport.

Diving, gymnastics, snow boarding, skating are some of my favourite Olympic sports. Hate stuff like the football and tennis at the Olympics

Ice scaring is definitely not a sport. I would not be paying money to watch that. I can watch paint dry or grass grow at home :)

Don't get me started on this one.
I've always argued that they are sports but that they are more a form of physical art than the kind of sport you expect at the Olympics. It's the thing about objectively judged events versus subjectively judged events for me.

Yeah but you're a girlee, you are going to like that kind of girlee stuff !:p

I do realise that if I now meet you in the real world I shall be one of the following:

    a) very dead

    b) severely mutilated

    c) groveling (at best)

    d) Probably all the previous three but in reverse order.

    :(:D

Nigel Mansell 1987? British Grand Prix win when pitted for tyres and then chased down long time leader Nelson Picquet. There was a lot less technology and data analysis of races by commentators back then. That, together with Murray Walkers commentary, put the outcome on a knife edge. Great drive in his home GP.

I don't really watch those sports other than the Olympics or commonwealth games. I just find it amazing how you can have control of your body like that and be so graceful with all that power, plus the danger of falling

Another example of Mansell’s brilliance behind the wheel. He was fearless, every driver knew that he would out brake them if he got close enough.
Only bad luck and some truly horrific cars stopped him from winning more world championships.

May not be Britains greatest performances but worthy of note anyway.
Joe Davis (snooker) unbeatable in his day.
Phil Taylor (darts) same unbeatable in his day.
Lester Piggot (jockey) no one as ever come near his class.
Yank Lenthall - Athersley- and Kieth Stepple - Silkstone - (nipsy)
    Jeff Capes (worlds strongest man).
Judd Trump (snooker) just about won everything 2019/20.

Daughter (and her friends) were reasonably high level competitive gymnasts (county/national) - and the stuff they do is pretty amazing and all of them were working on the skills they do in the Olympics. Believe me, its a lot of hard work to get to that level (20+ hours per week for probably a decade+).

One of the greatest for me was at Otley in 1979, Northern Division beat the All Blacks 21-9.
The All Blacks had won every game on the tour beating Scotland the week before and England the week after.
It pains me to say it but most of the team were Lancashire lads, mainly playing for Sale,Fylde and Broughton Park with three or four from the North East and Yorkshire.
A couple of screenshots from the match on YouTube.
Behind the goal are trees....with fans on them, the second shot is the end of the game...almost darkness.

    Agree 100%
What about ski jumping though? IMO if you land safely it should be about distance albeit the new system of windspeed assistance at the time of jump factored in is fair enough) but adding style marks into the equation means someone jumping a shorter distance can still win is daft and is a subjective factor. WOuldn't do that in athletics (long or high) jumping. Same with mogul, Freestyle skateboarding etc.

Pretty much exactly what you said on ski jumping. If it's distance with set hard and fast rules for penalties or extra points for wind assistance it's in, if it's scored based on what someone watching thinks looks best it's out.

I'm not saying they're not great sports or activities and I do enjoy watching them but I think they should be in a seperate event to the Olympics
