Building a bigger stadium had an adverse affect on the pitch. The ground became more enclosed affecting available light and drainage. The drainage issue hasn't been addressed and we now play on a ploughed field most weeks and are now cancelling a game. But it's not just the pitch, the whole stadium has seen very little investment since the 90s
There has been a lot of poor quality pitches on show on tv, not just ours. Also, I have seen some looking far worse than ours
Not sure how the pitch can be any better tomorrow. Its never stopped raining today and there's snow forecast overnight. The pitch used to have exceptional drainage back in the old days. Not sure what's happened since. Maybe the drains have been blocked
Derby just posted this: Not sure what could’ve been done in all honesty. Apart from cover the entire pitch but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that.
This shouldn,t be happening these days in league football, how much would covers cost compared to all the other expenses at a football club?, small change i would have thought, its got to be worth it to stop the build up of fixtures...
It would have been an awful game to watch though, given those conditions. Would rather watch it on a dry March day (if we get one) when our silken skills can be better displayed
Has anybody thought we might have not wanted it on for certain reasons and subsequently not done much work on the pitch this mornining to get it on.
It's not the fault of groundstaff that the game is off. They are clearly not funded well enough and it's bad to the only game off in the top three leagues.
No, I don't think so. All the effort of getting a game on, we've brought a player in on loan from USA. I think canceling games, with the build up of fixtures in an already hectic schedule, was the last thing on everyone's mind
At this level a professional football club should not have a pitch in the state ours has been this season. Lower league clubs have seen the exact same weather/climate and have kept the playing surface in alot better condition. It's either purposely not been maintained or the ground staff aren't up to the job.
