Little bit disrespectful; when the lad who has said it was him who 'made it up', has given a thorough breakdown of why he's using it.

Correct. But you didn’t pitch it in that context.

I could ask my friend if he’d up for renting out his spare room but it doesn’t mean I’m trying to move in there and then.

YT, what have you done? You’ve sent the expert brain cell into overdrive. Schoolboy error. Still let em burn off some energy, before something important happens..:)

    I agree. 100%.

And I'm honestly not just trying to slag the owners off. Like everyone, I have my reservations about them but they've made some great signings and great managerial choices. I am enjoying the current era. But they didn't buy us because they are Barnsley fans. And so how they operate will be governed ultimately by a different set of criteria from (say) the Brentford or Brighton owners, who are both lifelong fans. They aren't in it for the brass.

I'm not even wholly against leaving or massively renovating/rebuilding Oakwell. But it would have to be for the right reason(s). (If, however unlikely it seems, we outgrow it, for example).

    That is my entire concern.

From an outsider looking in, I'd agree with this sentiment too. I reckon a lot of our fans, deep down, also feel this way.

However, I feel some struggle to accept it, because the ownership has no affiliation to the town. And I really can't fathom why. Its been intimated at least twice, just in this thread.

I don't understand all the upset of using the phrase 'Grove Street' either. It is on Grove Street after all.

    Ytbfc.
I enjoy reading your posts because of the mystique in a lot of them regarding this and that to do with the club, but I am a little puzzled by this latest explanation of "Grove Street"
I fully understand you want to add variety to the brand name but I do find it strange that you are explaining this current thread by saying it was your choice of name for a magazine when most if not all posters on here are trying to work out why Chelsea will turn up at Grove Street. They are not coming to a magazine.
I'm not trying to start a fight cos I'd lose every time, but why even say Grove Street as a location when we all know it's Oakwell, yet you still say it's only a magazine.
Please don't rip me to pieces with disdain.
    I'm simply trying to understand.

    I'm just adding context buddy.

I made a decision five years ago now, that in articles of length such as a match preview where - for home games - I'd have to refer to the club/stadium a lot, that I'd use Grove Street for reference occasionally. So for example:

Barnsley are back in action this coming Saturday, as the Reds welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Oakwell in a 12pm kick-off. Our visitors from down the road are in horrific form of late, losing their last 65 fixtures but this pre-season friendly offers them a glimpse of what it used to be like when pitching up on Grove Street as a Championship club a few years ago.

    Or

For Michał Helik, it has been an impressive start to life as a Barnsley player. The man from Chorzow is enjoying his first year at Oakwell and wants to keep on making an impact for the Reds. Since arriving on Grove Street in the summer of 2020, the big Pole has been a mainstay in Valérien Ismaël's defence and has also contributed at the other end of the pitch with a handful of goals.

I think - personally - it flows better than it would if all I had to use was Barnsley, Oakwell and the Reds. It's one more reference point. It's that simple. And in fairness, there are plenty (the majority in fact) of articles where I don't use Grove Street at all.

The Derby preview for example: https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/february/derby-preview/

But I did use it in our preview against Tranmere, saying : Rovers will arrive on Grove Street knowing that history is against them in terms of previous meetings in this particular fixture. In 26 matches at Oakwell, the side from the Wirrall are yet to come out on top.

I referred to the magazine/programme because it's relevant. It just felt like a fitting name for the programme, seeing as I used to buy a programme off the bloke on Grove Street every other week when I was a nipper. So in the lead up to that launch date, we upped the usage of Grove Street references. Pure marketing.

But yes. Chelsea aren't coming to a magazine. They are coming to Oakwell. And to do so, they arrive on Grove Street.

Just for one game, I think you should replace any references to "Grove Street" with "near Rotherham" just to see the reaction. There's precious little to keep us entertained in between (and in some cases, during) games in this lockdown. This could provide some.

I made sure to include three Oakwell references in the Rams Clash Rearranged article at 4pm. I was itching to stick a Grove Street in there though.

I wasn't suggesting you were slagging the owners off mate. Each to their own on that. Just highlighting how different context and words around rumours, facts and stories can make them look very different to the reality. It isn't an undisputed fact that we're trying to groundshare - it's an undisputed fact that we've asked about it. Semantics I know, but it stirs people up in a certain way and before you know it the avalanche of the opinion ends up way off from where it should be.

West Ham played at the Boleyn Ground. It was always referred to as "Upton Park" though.

I'm not sure where that leaves me in this debate.
