They made a tidy profit when they sold Nice. Maybe there hoping to do the same with all their other acquisitions.

I've supported Barnsley for many years - since the 1950s in fact and the only owner I have heard from on a regular basis is Patrick Cryne and he was unique I think. The current owners appear to be running the club in
a proper fashion and employing good people to do it including a Head Coach who gives a weekly press conference and answers questions in a direct manner, a CEO who gives helpful updates when there is something to say,
a Club Secretary who is approachable and helpful, Whitey who comes on here and keeps us informed and entertained and Beth in the office who keeps them all under control. The Club's recent recruitment and retention of players
in the middle of a pandemic doesn't suggest any lack of commitment. A measure of that commitment can also be seen in the recent decision, on moral grounds, to retain all of the U16 scholars. I think we are quite lucky to have such a set up.

Anyway what are people's thoughts on the Chelsea Cup match which is what I thought this thread was about?

Maybe we should have the full navigation steps ground to ground as per google maps on next one. Any point that creates a talking point is good marketing and puts the club in the minds of people right. :)

The frothing at the mouth of any mention of Grove Street is extremely weird and makes no sense whatsoever.

Is the house near the bottom of Grove Street still used for meetings of all kinds?
Only remember going there once for some reason, can't for the life of me remember why, it was so long ago, but thought it was a strange place to go to for such meetings.
Like going into someone's house for a get together.

Got to disagree there BR. I fully accept Whitey's explanation but it's inevitable that there will be some suspicions of the owners' agenda and the Grove Street thing is a casualty of that. As I've said above I've got no problems with the way the football side is being run. We look in a stronger position than in a long time. Non payment of fees, enquiries about ground share etc, etc are bound, however, to make people wary, including me.
My fingers are firmly crossed that eveything is rosey. But there's an awful lot of evidence over the years at Wigan, Bury, Chester, Portsmouth, Bolton, Boston, Rotherham, Wednesday just off the top of my head that we shouldn't be complacent.

But if it’s all a big conspiracy around moving away from Oakwell why would they substitute ‘Oakwell’ for ‘Grove Street’ which is still tied to the same location? If they’d changed ‘Oakwell’ for ‘Our home’ or ‘the stadium’ permanently I might be more on your side with my pitchfork ready.

My pitchfork isn't ready mate. :)
If you look at it through a certain lens it could be seen as a subtle way of weakening the Oakwell brand. I know it's a bit arcane but our owners aren't stupid and are quite capable of using baby steps to get what they want.
I fully accept Whitey's explanation however though, as a traditionalist, the Grove Street references do grate a bit.
I have no problem with us moving ground, as long as it's within Barnsley. If we're stating put I wish they'd do something about the West Stand, it's an eyesore.
I can't see any prospect of them trying to move us permanently out of town. There's nowhere to go that would result in anything other than a catastrophic crash in support levels.
And I'm rambling on, lol. There's obviously something going on behind the scenes though in terms of the ground.

I hadn’t realised, but we are the lowest ranked side left in the FA Cup

I think we should just get the council to change the name of the street to Oakwell Boulevard, get an act of parliament to change the name of Barnsley to Oakwellville and then there's no problems.......' Chelsea travel to Oakwellville for their 5th round cup tie on Thursday. The team coach is scheduled to arrive on Oakwell Boulevard late afternoon before the much anticipated match at Oakwell stadium in the evening'. There.......
Edit: There is an obvious flaw in my logic......

    Back to the match.

-3 degrees tonight, tomorrow night, and at kick off.

I hope the heating doesn't break down.
