Bess has 17 test wickets in 3 matches this calendar year. No one else has more..cannot see a case for Ali to play. His form has nose dived.

Bess’s batting is probably better than Ali’s too to be fair. Yes, he’s scored hundreds in the past but Ali has been a walking wicket for some time now at Test level.

Buttler - No problem if he needs a break then I can only applaude the England team for being flexible and putting mental health first
Anderson - The policy seems to be working well so far so no complaints, we'd all love to see him play every game but the day/night test is likely to be more suited to him and 3 tests in a row seems a bit of a stretch for him
Bess - I think it's quite harsh on him, I can only assume Moeen is netting very well. Definitely a risk to pick him but can see why they're going that way
Archer - Injured so can't play

I can only think Moeen has been selected for his batting.

His batting has been poor for a while now and Bess is no slouch with the bat. Suppose Moeen's record in India is very good so that might have come into it. I'd have actually played Moeen in the first game at 3 and gone with Broad over Bess to balance the team up but once they went with Lawrence and Bess I think they should stick with them.

I like Chris Silverwood and he's done a decent job so far but completely disagree with what he has done here.

I find it ridiculous that Moeen Ali is getting another chance at test cricket. A bit part spinner and average batter, no thanks. What will this do for Dom Bess and his confidence? Granted he didn't bowl well in India's second innings but give the young lad another chance. Moeen Ali is not the answer at test cricket. Let him play 50 over cricket and t20s.

maybe they both might have played an extra 20 tests if they had?
