Mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, it pays respect to the people we've lost and the sacrifices made. On the other hand, is it a bit soon, and a bit raw in the memory, for those who have suffered to be reminded of that suffering every day? I'm not against it, but can see why some people might be.

I am also not sure about this, I believe memorials should be erected to recognise something from the past , I believe whilst the here & now says we have a long way to go & we might be premature with this honour , however I think some kind of tribute could be bestowed upon our NHS staff in the area for their outstanding work & dedication during this crisis , when we eventually arrive back to normality then a lasting memorial would be appropriate .

It's not so much the idea of a memorial itself that troubles me on this, but more the location.

The Glassworks development is about the future of Barnsley. Hope, optimism, regeneration, repositioning and appealing to a wider audience of people from across the region to come and spend their leisure time in the heart of Barnsley.

And what will be one of the first things people see on arrival? Another bronze statue with morbid, reflective undertones. It doesn't free up the perception of the town as a modern, forward looking place.

Find room for it at the town hall, Churchfields park or similar. Somewhere that people can quietly pay their respects or take time out with loved ones and friends affected by the pandemic. Not in the heart of a leisure and shopping area where people want to spend time away from the concerns of the pandemic or the ills of this world.

Wouldn’t a plaque on a new hospital wing be more appropriate?

I can't think of anything more inappropriate than a reminder of our worst year, still fresh in everyone's memory, slap bang in the middle of what is supposed to be an open space.

Just to echo what everyone else has said, I think it’s inappropriate in timing and location.

Because Houghton is so out of touch with the public of Barnsley. He likes to be seen to be doing something, in reality he's done sod all

I think the money would be better spent either on the NHS or to help local businesses and individuals who have suffered the worst.

Whatever and whenever. It should be there for all to be able to see for me. So has to be in town.

Why do we even need a statue in the town centre to remind us that bin men collected grey bins during covid?

Not sure about this misen like, only thing I'm sure of is no matter what BMBC do they get crucified. Other towns are doing a similar thing, if BMBC did nothing some folk would be moaning about that too.
