Why are Barnsley better than us (Owlstalk)

    I don't give Wednesday that much thought. Out of the big clubs they're probably the least attractive hence their position in the League. I've nothing against them growing up in Pontefract and even now living in Rotherham I don't know that many Wednesday fans. I know a Man Utd fan in Pontefract who has a Sheffield Wednesday tattoo on his chest but changed teams in the early nineties. So the notion of them being vvankers isn't them as a collective but more that one person.

    I think naturally there are more Barnsley fans the nearer you get towards Barnsley. You get a few in Ackworth, more in Fitzwilliam, more still in Hemsworth etc. I've never associated Upton as an area that would have many Barnsley fans to be honest. Are Midweekers Leeds?

    So from reading the link we only stayed up because of a points deduction, they have got more points than us since sacking Monk, they are only five points behind us on points won on the field and we could still go down.

    To be fair a fair few have been really complimentary towards us.

    Some of their Fans seem to have a better understanding of our business model than some of ours! That’s why they seem so relaxed. The Wendies who live in Barnsley are very well informed!

    I suspect there are a lot of Wednesday fans that used to support Barnsley. The number of Wednesday supporters I've talked to from the area that you could swear were Barnsley supporters the way they talk about the club only to say "but I support Wednesday". It's almost as if they still have some affinity just by being from Barnsley if that makes sense.

    Reminds me of a blunts fan on Pigsty heaven. It was sometime between us being in the premier league & playoff final in 2000.

    He was bemoaning how they’d gone backwards and how we’d become the bigger club at that time - must have choked him

    Nothing personal against Wednesday but they've cheated like b*****ery for years and still dodged half the legitimate punishment and are STILL playing fast and loose with the rules. Division One is what they deserve I'm afraid.
