Would you rather finish 4th with no silverware, or 5th and win the FA Cup?

Listening to a podcast where PL fans seem to all be in agreement that finishing 4th is more important than the FA Cup. Surely the romance in football is in winning something?

Finish 4th and get in the champions league. Money money. Big european nights. Val can give the u23s and fringe players a run in the FA Cup next season

FA cup every time, still gets you into Europe.
No one remembers who came fourth in 1912, but we all know who won the cup.

I think they'd want 4th place over the FA Cup, as it gets them more live games on TV.

That being said, Duncan Ferguson said last week that Everton want to win the FA Cup, that's the goal for the end of the season. That was refreshing to hear.

It just depresses me how the average PL fan's outlook has gone from "winning a trophy is the best part of the game" to "I'm happy with nothing indefinitely, as long as my club makes money to maybe, possibly, compete for a different trophy next year".

Depends how many times you’ve seen your team win the cup, if I were an Arsenal fan for example, I’m pretty sure I’d rather finish 4th and have big European night to look forward to than have one day out a few miles away from home.

If I was a fan of a team regularly competing in the Premier League, eg Leicester, then I’d say 4th. Qualifying for the Champions League would take precedence over the FA Cup.

Growing up in the 90s, through to the 00s, I can remember many more exciting nights of the Champions League then I can FA Cup finals. I love the FA Cup for watching small non-league sides taking on the bigger boys, but nowadays it’s becoming more and more like the League Cup.

I'm sick and tired of all these posts about Premier League. This used to be a football forum. Go and join a finance message board and stop cluttering this place up.

I'd rather have the trophy win. It's nice to get into the Champions League but you've even less chance of winning that because you're competing with the best in Europe. In it to win it. If you can't it's a waste of time.

I'm old fashioned I suppose, so I'd want to win the FA Cup, for the day out and the occasion. Also still gets into Europe (EUROPA league I believe).

I posted something similar other day. Ray Parlour was saying in his days of winning FA Cups that was the ultimate. Then the lucrative Champions League developed and the club's drove them to top 4. Arsenal I think hold a record qualifying (until recently) for every one.
Parlour said he can show his kids winners medals but can't show them owt for finishing 2nd 3rd or 4th.
But I suppose its all about circumstances. West Ham could possibly get top 4 this season. I'm sure that's be better than a cup win. But a Man Utd or Liverpool would be disastrous and they'd love a cup. Usually it'd be the other way round.
All depends I suppose. Era, team, history etc.

In my opinion the 4th Champions League spot should go to the FA Cup winner.

Hell, if I had my way the champions league automatic spots would go to Premier league, FA Cup Winner, League Cup Winner. And then the 4th spot (the non-automatic one) going to 2nd in the League.

I'd give the 4th Champions League spot to the EFL trophy winners. It would make those ties look like a game of rollerball

I think they should ditch the Europa League and expand the Champions League to 64 teams and give qualification to the League Cup and F.A Cup winners.

not that it's a Champions League at the moment anyway but that would definitely make it just a European Tournament lol :)
