Sunderland have been taken over by a 23yo Swiss billionaire, who looks to be following in our footsteps by using a spreadsheet. https://the72.co.uk/222956/louis-dr...a-driven-approach-to-performance-recruitment/ We're going to find unearthing talent ever more difficult I fear as more clubs take this approach
Pleased to see you are doing well in the championship, my pal is a big Barnsley supporter so I have a soft spot for you and still follow your progress even though we're leagues apart. Very impressed with you with how you played against Chelsea and an outstanding win at Brentford recently. For the first time in years we seem to have a plan and are going to move into the modern era with a big emphasis on developing players through the academy.
Did you see the Accrington owners tweet mate? Many Sunderland fans seemed to take it the wrong way. I think his main point was the nature of mega rich owners involvement. If your guy is the same as ours, then you can still call Sunderland your club. When things are back to normal the size of your gates should give you an advantage over league one and championship. Once owners start spending well beyond turnover it becomes their club, because it becomes a hobby and your financial input becomes largely irrelevant. Sunderland is big enough not to have to buy its way back up the leagues, so I hope they save all the financial daftness for when you get back in the prem. Mind you, you’ve got little Lee at the helm.........
Cheers. The first time we can't go therefore wouldn't be shocked if we won, it's not the main aim of the season though but may raise a bit cash. Would be important to get over the psychological barrier of winning at Wembley in case we are there in the play offs.
We’ve had some results during covid that have broken long away hoodoos. I feel a lot more relaxed watching us play away on telly. Rather be there in person but I’ll take the wins all day. How’s Scowen doing for you? He was a favourite with us.
I haven't really followed that whole discussion but I can see it caused a bit of outrage lol. I think our new owner is aiming to use his wealth to build properly and not to check money around and overpay recklessly like we did when signing the wrong kind of players (Grigg, Graham etc). We've already created two new roles and are recruiting for a data analyst and a data scientist as well as un-furloughing a supporter liaison officer - I think we are playing catch up on the way many teams have done things for years. I listed to a great interview with the Peterborough chairman a few months ago and they use data when identifying players to recruit. Is this something you are doing? I hope the days of chucking money around are gone for us as it nearly put us out of business, i'm just happy we have financial security to continue especially at this current time.
I like Scowen, it took him a while to break into the team but he is regular now (might be injured today though), his work rate is something else mind! A few of our lot grumble at his finishing and odd stray pass but he covers every blade of grass.
