Pet thefts seem to have rocketed recently. I’m not sure I could be responsible for my actions if I came face to face with someone who stole any of the dogs/ cats we’ve had in our family. You have to be an utter scumbag to do it.

Which made me think, why isn’t it possible to just make this impossible? The technology available these days for gps tracking etc. Why can’t that be loaded onto a chip in the same way that address/owner details are?

I looked up a GPS tracker for our cat, as I’m curious where she goes. The size of them is just too big. She wouldn't wear a collar that size. So why isn’t it possible to get this scaled down? Must be a way - and an opening for a huge revolution in pet care??

One of the most heinous crimes, I’d be beside myself if my dog got stolen.

I think that technology is still a while off. When you see wildlife programmes, the tracking collars are still still a big bit off kit.
Dog theft is an awful crime. *******..

It's the battery life needed for putting on/in a chip, at the minute the collar ones you can get need charging each week. There's one from Vodafone now that's not too big

I race pigeons and there are tracking gps rings that can be fitted on their legs You can track where they are when flying home
I would have thought that the device could have been adapted to fit under skin of animals?

Think the problem is that the prices of dogs have rocketed in lockdown, for a labrador puppy they are £2000+ at minute so people can't afford dogs so like anything they will get stolen. I fear that after all the restrictions end and people return to work they fins they won't have time to look after a dog so there will be more abandoned

I've a couple of dogs which are now commanding 3k as puppies. Thankfully when out walking mine are noisy and one is protective so growls if people come near, as a result of them being noisy people tend to stay away from me which hopefully helps

When I’ve had pet dogs I’ve always managed to get into the conversation with people who taken an interest in them that they are poorly and need a lot of medication. It was true with one dog but decided to keep the strategy with the others if someone seemed to be asking one question too many.
