Looks like he expected something different after an £8 million move.... obviously didn’t realise there wouldn’t be that much left to pay for many other players, or that on his wages they’d be expecting him to get them out of the shizzle on his own.
I totally get when a team like Chelsea ( for example) say " we should be beating teams like Barnsley, because they should, it makes sense because they have much better players, but Bristol City who are below us in the league and in very poor form have no right to categorise us as " Teams like " i would have loved the commentator to have asked him " what do you actually mean by " teams like Barnsley " c€£t, infact what does he actually mean
#TeamsLikeBarnsley. Did Brizzle not see us against Chelsea? Keeps us under the radar, then anything is possible.
EIGHT MILLION ENGLISH POUNDS! Our recruitment strategy has come under scrutiny over recent years, but look at this chap. They paid £8m quid for him, on a 4 year contract. 2 years into that, and they're in with a real chance of getting relegated to league 1. So what happens then is, they sell Kalas, for much less than they paid for him, or he stays with the club, presumably on Premier League wages and tries to get them out of league 1. By the end of his 4 year deal, he'll be 30 years old, and his career presumably in decline. Bristol City are unlikely to be in the Premier League by then, barring a minor miracle, which is exactly the reason why they laid out 8 MILLION POUNDS for him in the first place. Meanwhile, Michal Helik is 2 years younger, and was over £7m cheaper. I can see who got the better deal here.
Tell you what he means. He means, for some reason he feels that he and the team are above and better than “teams like Barnsley” How does he come to that thought? They have lost 7 on bounce and were the worst team we've played. It could have been 4/5 on another day. There starting 11 is multi million pounds in transfers. Theres £14 million in him n Famara Diedhou!!! If he's what you get for £8 million the please Barnsley, keep signing lower league players and taking a punt on a few from Europe etc. The stuck up t**t needs to take a look at the league, highlights of that game and how we are run compared to them. ******
It shows is that there are plenty of good players out there that don't need the spotlight of playing in a big league to mash their actual value beyond all comprehension. Good scouting and a recognition of qualities that fit in with the way you play are really important. I've lost count of the number of quality defenders we've had since around the time in John Stones onwards. We've unearthed some really good ones on a consistent basis.
Have to be careful here as he wasn’t being derogatory like opposition fans always are on Twitter. He wasn’t saying ‘I can’t believe we’re not beating teams like Barnsley’ or ‘how are we letting teams like Barnsley dominate’, for me he just meant that for them to be hitting their objectives they need to do better than thinking 0-0 is a good result against those teams in and around that chasing pack for the playoffs.
But the thing is, they should be better than "...teams like Barnsley". They have an owner that has invested a fortune into the team and facilities, a good fan base from a big city(averaged 17,000 before the suspension of the 19/20 season, compared to our 11,616). They have players who cost £8m and will be on lower end Premier League wages, and lets not forget the rest of their team which will not have been cheap. If they are not expecting to do better than a team that has has been a yoyo team in the near past, only stayed up on the last day of the season, and even then only because Wigan are a basket case of a club, a team that is made up of young, inexperianced players on wages that will be in the bottom 6 or so of the league and have never in their history paid more than about £1.5m on a player, then there is something seriously wong! I mean, we're the very definition of punching aobove our weight at the minute! Luckily for us, football can be played loads of different ways. We have found a system that works for us on and off the pitch. Bristol have been spending millions to find the right soloution to take them to the next level, but in doing so it looks like they have made a big mistake somewhere. Let's keep at it, Reds. Let's see how far this approach can take us...
I totally get it when it's coming from a massive football club like Bristol City, in a football hotbed such as Bristol. City's proud haul of zero major trophies in their history, part of a combined tally of nought (making Bristol the only decent-sized city in the country to achieve less than Stoke-on-Trent) really puts the likes of us in our place. #teamslikebarnsley is understandable when you are facing these absolute titans.
Basically saying it’s not the defences fault. What a team player he is. £9million quid for someone that doesn’t take responsibility.
He really isn’t saying that though. Way too much sensitivity in this thread. If our players say it after the Preston or Luton games, are they being disrespectful or saying ‘we need to beat these teams if we want to get in to that top six’.
