Absolutely amazed at the 12/100,000 deaths in India, how on earth have they kept it that low? Something to do with the climate?

I read a very interesting article on India a while back, I'll never find the link so I'll paraphrase. This isn't meant to be offensive to Indians, as it's a wonderful country that I'd love to visit one day, but their general hygiene and healthcare standards are undoubtedly worse than ours, especially in rural areas. Therefore, their people are more adept at dealing with a wider variety of diseases, viruses etc than us westerners as they come into contact with them a lot more and have less medicines to deal with it than us. The theory was that because their immune systems have more practice than ours, they've just been generally better at deadling with the virus than us.

And possibly that most people likely to die from covid were already dead.

Thanks Wellsie, that makes perfect sense, I remember a Radio 4 series a few years back called "The Human Biome" which was all about the bacteria that live in our gut which we couldn't live without. It mentioned that our obsession with hygiene was responsible for lowering our immune system's effectiveness resulting in all sorts of allergies etc.

Ahh so that explains why they opened up the last test venue to 15,000 spectators every day. No attempt at separating them either

Did make me laugh that they had half crowds because of covid, but crammed half the crowd into half the ground rather than have them spread across all sections.

It does, I was wondering about the crowd at the 2nd test, absolutely no social distancing.

As Wellsie has said, the low death numbers appear to be down to the conditions in India where people normally operate with lower standards of hygiene than here in the UK, thereby developing much better immune systems. This obviously isn't hereditary but environment driven, since according to official figures, ethnic minorities have fared significantly worse in the UK.

Also, many more than shown in the figures in the graph may have died from undiagnosed Covid in India.
The cause of death may well have been Covid related but because the person wasn't tested and shown to have Covid the death may have been recorded as 'Respiratory Failure' or similar.

Strangest thing I found going to the IOM for the first time was being greeted off the ferry by a policeman in white uniform;) Not after me in particular but an overnight ferry full of football fansover for the tournament piqued his interest I think

India is a “democracy”, but it’s very much under attack thanks to the BJP and modi’s Hindu nationalism, the Press is not free - India ranks 142 out of 180 in press freedom index- which is truly terrible for a so called democracy. I absolutely guarantee then that there is deliberate manipulation of the figures which the press don’t question and given the shear size and poverty in the non-urban areas it must be by organisation vastly underreported,
