I assumed Barnsley had that hybrid stuff down. I seem to remember watching a video tour of the new Brentford ground and they showed the hybrid grass and said that all Premier League and Championship clubs had it. Having said that, I'm sure Kyle Walker is getting a bit over excited about it in that picture.
Our pitch always used to be pristine, even in winter. Apparently the soil in the area is very good for football pitches. However, I must say that I don't mind seeing a quagmire in winter. Reminds me of the days when football was real football. Part of the magic of the FA Cup was seeing a top flight team full of internationals wading around a marsh of a lower league pitch, completely unable to figure out where the ball was as it had disappeared somewhere in the mud.
To my knowledge the club have been doing that every year for a long time. Barnsley like most clubs use ‘fast growing’ shallow rooted grasses. They heavily scarify at the season end which basically removes the top thin layer including roots. The pitch is then reseeded. What BFC doesn’t have, unlike many other clubs, are grow lamps. These are expensive to buy and run, but they do stimulate grass growth throughout the winter months.
They must be new then. Certainly weren’t there when I was at the club. I’m not sure where they store them, bearing how big they are. This is Tottenham’s system. http://sglsystem.com/case/integratedsystem.php
We’ve definitely 2 grow light gantries whereas most other teams have 6/8. I think all clubs will need to go down the hybrid route within the next couple of years. Winter are predicted to be even wetter in the future!
