How do we feel now about letting Matty James go?

There was lots of debate in January about whether we'd made a mistake in not trying to extend Matty James' loan to the end of the season. There was a communication after he'd gone indicating that it was big Val's decision because he wanted to give more game time to Palmer and Kane.

I think we already have enough evidence to suggest it's another good VI decision. And whilst I don't think it will happen, even if we fall away and finish mid-table (I just can't see us finishing lower than that), I still think it'll be the right one for the future as Palmer and Kane will progress faster.

Right now we would have a better squad if he were in it.

I think we are doing OK without him and if we were paying anywhere near the £34000 quoted as his weekly wages, I can understand why it was not extended.

That money saved probably enabled VI to bring in Morris, Kitching and Dike.

I'd rather we still had him, but given the much more direct style of football now and how we bypass midfield for large amounts of the game, he was wasted in there and just wouldn't present VFM. Epitomised by bringing on Halme yesterday instead of a passer. I'm feeling the same about Woodrow. I love Woodrow, but we're completely wasting him and we might as well have Ian Ormondroyd in his stead.

Been impressed with Palmer. He's had a big gap to jump and there's no hiding in CM, but he's done really well.

This time round I thought James flattered to deceive in the games I saw.

remember when Hammill came back one of his early interviews he said the young players looked at him and said he been in premier league, we are as good and we went on a good run, maybe James being here made our lads think, hey I am better than I thought, who knows,I liked James but our Philosophy is improving young players so understand big Val decision

he is a few years older and another injury or too weaker,he was solid enough, but his days in premier league looked past him for me

As much as it pained me at the time to see him go, as we were a better team with Matty around, it doesn't seem to have had an adverse affect on the performances. We've just won 4 on the bounce, so VI is vindicated. Saving Matty's wage has enabled to bring in Morris, Kitching and Dike.

    In Val we trust

Can't complain at the minute. Palmer is playing well and has a bright future ahead of him. We're lucky that Mowatt seems to be bulletproof and never misses a minute.

Without doubt a class player, but with the emergence of Palmer he hasn't been missed as much as I initially thought he would. Of course I wish he was still here but the table proves/ shows it wasn't a disaster in him leaving, I don't think he is a regular starter for a very poor Coventry side, which I find hard to understand

Interesting views , we all loved Matty because he has quality & had an instant connection with our club but I see Coventry have struggled with him in the side & they left him out on saturday & beat Brentford , it could be that his qualities require other players of similar ability around him & maybe his class is wasted in the championship , I do not know the answer but I will say that any squad in the championship would benefit with him being part of it .

Honestly don’t see the attraction. Mowatt has flourished again since he left. Styles is a better player. Not missed him one bit personally.

I thought we’d taken a gamble because we are an inexperienced squad, and he brought a lot of experience with him. But the performances of the two forwards to come in are now making us look stronger for the transfer window.

Ultimately VI was happy with the work the club did in the window which is the main thing

helped us out and got himself fit but we've got our own players who are the future of the club and so would have been a srain in resources to keep him imo

My view was that I rate him & ideally I would keep him but if we could use the money instead to strengthen the areas we were weak in (front 3) I wouldn’t have an issue with us not keeping him here.

We’ve seemingly used the money for Morris, Dike & Kitching so I’m happy.
