If we were fortunate to go up then we'd have to improve our standard of play a zillion fold. I know we are all chuffed with the way things are right now but we are only one step from being a very poor side if we have a bad day, say we lose 6-0 today, heaven forbid. I love to see us win but we are no Man City or even Leeds ! We are a grafting, hard working team but we are not particularly skilful. It's that which differentiates you from the rest and getting into the Prem out of a league of sloggers and toilers would not suit us right now. I think our current players may be out of their depth in the Prem and we'd need strengthening to be able to take on the best in the world. However there'd be no one happier than me to see us do it.
I think going up again would give the town a much needed lift. Val has played in it too, which should be a benefit. And we'd have to stay at Oakwell. Plus I selfishly want the opportunity to share being in the top flight with my son, opportunities to do so don't come round very often.
Not sure we could play a high defense line in the prem without signing Usain Bolt and our front 3 would need replacing every 30 mins pressing chasing Premier defences so we would need 8 subs to bring on. I have no idea how it would go but I don't think the Chelsea game is a true reflection of what it would be like. I'd be happy with a season in the prem again to bolster our financial status and not blow our budget and future. We could do the yo yo between both leagues until we are ready to stay up. Big dream at the minute.
I didn't mean the playing system, just the buy low/sell high model. Even with the funds that the PL would bring, it's more important than ever that we remain sustainable and self-sufficient.
I know mate and the sustainable model for me is the most important aswell whether we stayed up or went straight back down.
It’s a bit of a quandary because you cant not take the chance if it comes along (real long shot still) but in an ideal world it would be better to layer another season onto this one and push on again. The players have grown into the Championship but only for the past season so another step up would find us looking a bit short I think. When Blunts went up didn’t they do it after a strong first season under Wilder and went to another level the following season? They didn’t have many household names either so it is achievable. Whatever happens, this season has far exceeded my expectations to this point
Not getting ahead of myself as I don't think we'll go up though it has to be a possibility at this point. But if we did i'd just carry on as we are and accept the likelihood of coming back down. The massive wedge of money gained would allow us to move the plan up a notch. Money is crucial these days though VI is doing a great job of levelling the playing field.
The good thing is I can have the fun of day dreaming but won't be disappointed no matter what this season, we're staying up!
I’d be happy for us to rebuild the west stand and spend some money on a couple of strikers and a midfielder without going mad, with a view to being sustainable if we got relegated - I think West Brom have it right tbh, yo-yo club but they never seem to get giddy and spend on players who aren’t prepared to play in the championship.
Same model, just not scale it up. Take the money for promotion, get relegated, get money for being relegated. Repeat. Sorry about the strawberries!
