Because if you need equipment to do your job when in a public service then you’ve a right to claim for it. I wonder how many small items of low cost are not claimed for simply because they’re low cost.

There was an article some months ago which listed an MP's full expenses and the amount of tiny items (especially confectionery) was unbelievable. (I can't recall if it was Andrew Bridgen or Mark Francois). And it's those sorts of things that tend to annoy me.

Aside from my first job, I've always been in environments where expenses were paid for work related costs. Personally, I've always felt guilty in claiming for some things and so haven't really bothered, but I've known some who claim absolutely everything and then some.

My perceptions are that most MPs will claim for everything they are entitled to and push the boundaries as much as they can. But I'm sure its like the rest of the business world where some tend to claim the minimum, and others go beyond what others would perceive fair.

Used to work with a lad who would send his receipt for a 15p toll bridge in a company supplied 1st class envelope, once a week.

I'm no supporter of the expenses MP's have claimed over the years - some of them have been downright crooked.

But to point this out, when our current Tory Government have wasted literally billions of pounds is completely bizarre.

Especially as the OP is clearly no Tory.

She absolutely did not need to buy a £249 pair of earphones to do her job, don't be daft. She took advantage of the system because she could.

I’m not being daft, How do you know she ‘absolutely’ didn’t need to buy these? How do you know they don’t have to purchase certain items from a set list of suppliers as happens in Govt Depts? I know one thing with posts in this thread, how desperate some folk are

sorry but to try to try defend that expenditure on headphones is a no goer imho.
And if they were on a list to choose from the person who compiled it needs putting in a different job.
I just find it really annoying how devoid of reality mp’s are when it comes down to personal expenses.
If I’d put that on my expenses no way would I have got away with it.
The amount of wate in government is absolutely ridiculous

Then you know nothing about claiming expenses in the Govt depts, and no, It’s not easy to pillock either. Every penny has to be accounted for with receipts etc. I’ve ditched more possible small expenses claims cause I can’t be arsed going through the procedure of claiming. I’m more focusing on the faux outrage rather than defending expenditure claims. In this case the expenses are quite plausible, and really are a drop in the ocean by comparison.

I probably wouldn't get away with them in regular 'expenses' either, but I got a pair from work as part of our regular hardware refresh. iPhone, MacBook, AirPods. Pretty standard lineup of items that work together better than other brands mixed and matched in.

I get about best matched etc but U can’t believe she couldn’t have got a perfectly good pay for way less than that.
I always get irritated with MP’s taking the **** wth expenses though.

This is my point, just because they may be cheaper options, doesn’t mean to say it’s the easiest or most practical thing for her to do. She’s not doing anything extravagant by choosing a popular brand item and getting them personalised free of charge.

Jeez there's some naivety in this thread.

Of course £250 isn't a bargain price for headphones, but nor is it ridiculously high. But for context...

Try this experiment, stand on a bridge over a motorway; have a look at all the premium motorcars that drive past, how many of them do you genuinely believe were purchased solely from private earnings with no expenses claim?

Only MP not to buy anything on expenses in the financial year prior to 2019 election?

    Take a stab.

The noise cancelling AirPods are probably needed seeing as she will be broadcast nationally from her home and they cost about that

    [ have to be taken.
650 MPs claiming their full £10,000 allowance, equates to @£6.5million. A large amount I grant you but the laptops for schools programme is substantially more per person and not good value.[/QUOTE]
The only scandal is how Apple get away with charging so much . Are they noise cancelling too? Could be useful during PM's QT
