My daughter in law. Gave birth to the eldest Grandchild. In a Sheffield hospital on a Wednesday.. my Granddaughter now tortures me and takes great pleasure in not letting me forget that fact. And if I ask her who she supports. Says “well, I was born in Sheffield on a Wednesday grandad “
Her Having a tarn season ticket and tarn kits. Doesn’t prevent her from rubbing it in.

Nothing more makes my teeth itch than a midweeker fan from Barnsley calling Barnsley fans dingles, its a bit like a ginger kid calling another ginger kid "ginge" makes no sense ( not to me anyway)

I worked for years in Sheffield with mainly Wednesday fans but also a few United fans. All of them were just ordinary football fans supporting their local team just like me. I married a Sheffield girl who's family were all Wednesday and they too were just ordinary fans with no delusions of grandeur. The one thing all of them had in common is that they disliked each others fans and called each other "pigs". The "massive" thing is a bit of joke to wind up the United fans. They sarcastically refer to it just to get under the skin of the Blades fans. There are obviously a few who actually believe the hype but in the main, most are realistic and know the club are in a hell of a mess.

The ones from Barnsley I have know are horrible when it comes to football. I have a passionate dislike for people who are born and raised in Barnsley and support either of the Sheffield clubs or Leeeds.

Years ago i had a new starter to train and asked him who he supported ( always did this to break the ice ).
He said Castleford at rugby and Sheff utd at football, i said the others have told you to say that - but it was true !!!
I (hate) them two the most ,oh and Leeds utd.

I worked in Sheffield for seven years, so know many of both. There's no difference. They all have the same things in common: They have no humility, a huge superiority complex and yes...are very condescending.

Living in the Penistone area we have quite a mix of supporters Barnsley, Wednesday, Leeds, Blunts, Huddersfield, even a couple of Man City season ticket holders come in my local. Most of us get on along with some healthy banter. The very few pricks tend to be Wednesday fans who don't seem to accept how poor and badly run they are.

One of them used to run one of the local boozers and wouldn't let half a bus load of us in when we got back from West Brom the day Wednesday got relegated.

By birthright I should support Leeds (or Harrogate), and according to where I lived before I went to St Petersburg, I was probably equidistant between the two Sheffield clubs.
Family roots in Wath and Mexborough trumped all of that, though.

Luckily virtually all the Wednesday and United fans I know are very sound people, even my Wednesdayite mate from Wakefield. All his school mates supported Leeds or Barnsley, so he didn't have much fun growing up.

I've lived in Hoyland since 1988 and I don't know any 'Wendies'. I seem to recall, about 8 or 9 years ago, a teacher at the School at Hoyland common who was from Sheffield put up a banner recruiting for their academy. There was an agreement at the time between Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster clubs not to actively recruit in other areas than their own. The banner was taken down after a week or so following a phone call from BFC.

To my eternal shame I was born in Jessop's hospital in Sheffield, fortunately it was a Friday, in fact Good Friday. These facts probably contribute to me being a Barnsley fan and an Atheist.....
