Morais had McBurnie, Heckingbottom didn't. We were outside the relegation zone when he took over if I recall correctly. I just don't see any way to argue that he did a better job.
Lee Johnson was and is a very good manager and a nice bloke. Questionable stock phrases, I'm not claiming he's cool, but a good bloke who knows his stuff.
Neil Redfearn was a weak link in our promotion winning midfield. We played fantastic one touch football through midfield which Redfearn wasn’t quite attuned to. He did have other strengths though
Upgraded from Bradshaw, Ugbo & Thiam to McBurnie, Moore & Bradshaw but still managed to take us down as although we started scoring goals he couldn’t organise a team. He was awful. Rotating full backs as he didn’t believe full backs could play twice a week so we ended up with our most consistent player Yiadom sat watching sky sports news in relegation 6 pointer was a gem of his.
There’s no way on earth Lee Johnson would’ve took Barnsley up that season. He’s always been a manager who works in streaks. Long went back & Bree & White got crocked. In my eyes one of the main reasons we went up was because Heckingbottom used to be a full back & got Scowen & George Williams to do a good job when they stepped in. Imagine Johnson losing 3 of his back 4. We used to get 10 minutes of whining from him in press conference when the only player he had out injured was Ryan Williams.
OP is most definitely an unpopular opinion - Morais was awful. Good thread though. Some of mine: Luke Berry was a good player who we got rid of too early. Winnall to Wednesday is one of best pieces of transfer business we've done in recent years. Starting with the Lee Johnson appointment our ownership has one on the best track records of appointing managers of any club in the country.
If Phil Gridelet had stayed fit he'd have been better than Zidane. So much so, fans would have pronounced his surname in a French accent.
Mel Machin was a fantastic manager and gave me some of the best moments watching us Bruce Dyer was dire GS is a lucky manager not a good one. The Bury Baggio Is a wing back not a centre mid. Lee Johnson was a poorer manager than Spackman. In terms of knowing how to be a footballer Thiam was in the bottom 3. Some ability but no basic tools to show it.
