Just been having a look at some recent red card appeals, see what is comparable. I'd say we have a good chance of winning an appeal based on these. I'd say ouf all those, closest one to Mowatts would be the Maddison one where the appeal was won. Could be a case of whoever sits on the panel I guess. Knowing our luck it will be made up of officials from the teams in the top 8 of the championship. First one was Toffolo sending off for Hudds v Luton ( 1 min 34 secs ). This one failed in the appeal with the 3 match suspension upheld. This one is Whatmough sending off for Pompey v Lincoln ( 23 secs ). Again failed appeal, 3 match suspension. Next one Maddison for Bolton v Morecambe ( 1min 12 secs ). This one they won the appeal and red card rescinded. Final one Williams for Bolton v Stevenage. ( 1 min 30 secs ). Appeal won and red rescinded.
The maddison one looks far worse since he takes a run up before flying in, Mowatt was already close and didn't dive in. I'm optimistic that it will be rescinded.
Where exactly is the dangerous part of this tackle? Not 2 footed, studs facing ground, barely any contact if any. Maximum a yellow for a mis timed tackle.
Tbf that’s a selective image. The frames before this will definitely show his feet off the ground, studs up
Interesting choice of freeze frame as you've gone for where Mowatt is on the ground. I don't think he's out of control, he hasn't dived in aggressively, but he left the floor with both feet and not made a good tackle. Don't see the appeal coming off and just hope it isn't extended to four games.
Is his left foot off the ground in those pics? Always difficult to tell on 2D stills. There was barely any force in the tackle, his right foot was nowhere near the player and his studs were never up. I agree, I doubt it will be overturned but to increase it would be a travesty of justice because it shouldn’t have been a red.
Both feet were off the ground. You see that on the playing video. I think it's a risk to appeal but I also understand why we'd want to. I just think in 'modern' football it's a red card, and if the opposition had been sent off for similar we'd be saying it was deserved.
Thanks for the research. I’m absolutely none the wiser after watching them all. If anything I’m more confused as to what a red card is, or is not
if it’s the case that the extra game ban is for a frivolous appeal then there’s no way he will get an extra game ban - there’s a valid argument it wasn’t a red
All opinions though isn't it? We can't agree on here, can't agree in my circle of Reds fans, and if the key decision makers with no feeling towards Barnsley FC look at it and see the two feet off the floor and catching the man with the ball, they might question why we appealed it. Not saying it's likely but it's possible.
I think definitely so with whether it will be successful mate but I think there’s zero chance of it being deemed frivolous given the nature of some of those rescinded if that makes sense
How do you transition from standing to sliding/tackling without both feet leaving the ground? By your theory every single goalkeeper should see red if he makes a save
