For some reason don't feel confidant, might just be experience from other seasons and the fact it's a Derby match against Wednesday and we have a real chance of getting into the playoffs
It’s unlikely we’ll go to the end of the season without losing, if it’s Saturday then so be it. I’d be more than happy to go on another eight game winning streak after losing Saturday. It’s far more important to beat Reading than Wednesday or put another way it’s more important to secure a playoff place than send Wednesday down.
Dont get hung up by it all Enjoy the ride It certainly dunt come around too often If we have a man sent off we do we lose a game we do But how much in the positive is all of this
I'm not nervous, I'm looking forward to it. The way things are at the moment, I wish we could play every day. I can't remember the last time I was so relaxed about football. We're in the top six and we're staying there. No other possibility exists in my mind. I don't mean that in an arrogant, massive way, it's not a feeling borne out of a false sense of entitlement, but more a case of no other outcome making any sense, not the way we're playing right now.
It's positive to feel nervous. Better than feeling indifferent. It's an important game that like us, Wednesday won't want to lose. Current form shows that we should prevail, but it's a derby and as we've seen in the past, the form book really does go out of the window. I trust that VI knows how he's going to approach this one and not withstanding the fact that our visitors usually benefit from some kind of " divine intervention" when we meet, we look to have too much for them. I'm expecting a scrappy game mainly down to the state of our pitch, but trust that our starting eleven and any subsequent substitutes give a good account of themselves and that we are able to register a deserved double that ultimately contributes towards Wednesday being relegated come the end of the season.
Under normal circumstances I'd at least be slightly nervous that something would go wrong. It still might, but looking at the chasm between the two sides, just like on Wednesday my head can't see past a 3-0 win for us. We have to lose some time, Wednesday have to win, but unless complacency kicks in or an incredibly unfortunate set of events conspires against us (always possible against them), it's unlikely to be on Saturday. We are a top end Championship side. They would struggle to finish halfway in League 1. I think that we could not bother replacing Mowatt and we'd still probably win. They're complete and utter guff, and devoid of confidence.
What has impressed me so so much about us under Val is our levels of consistency. he’s whole game plan is on fight and winning duels, or at least a large part of it. You can see that every last one of the current squad has bought into what he wants. They will run through a wall for him, which is the trick to management in anywhere or anything. He’s got their respect. This creates consistency in our performance and it’s hard to think of any games (perhaps Cardiff away) where we have fallen below the required levels. At one point where it was creeping in, Bon o Muff away, he stamped it out. Chances are, we will remain consistent on Saturday and if we are on the top of our game we will have too much for a poor Sheffield Wednesday team which are heading in the opposite direction to us, and incapable of lasting a full 90 minutes. I’ve never been more confident of playing them. We are the real deal under Val. I think we will batter them if Mowatt is playing. Slightly less confident if not, but still think we will win.
Have we ever got the double over Wednesday? In my 60 odd years of watching the reds I can’t remember it ever happening.
4 times we've done the double over them, but only once in the last 70 odd years: 1921/22, 1937/38, 1946/47 and the 2008/9 seasons
I saw a post on their forum. Summat about us being nervous because it’s them. Maybe if they had a crowd behind them he could be right, but they have to raise their game without that kind of vocal encouragement. Most of our players don’t give a Monkeys who Wendy’s think they are, and it will be another game for them. I just don’t see nerves in this reds side. Wednesday might come and turn us over, it’s not out of the question, but to do that they’re going to have to match us in every department and completely go against the trend that has them 2nd bottom and us 5th in the table. Big ask.
Think this would definitely be a match that is filling Oakwell would have been a huge boost, just given them that bit more of a lift.
