Wednesday fans having to revert to past glories, https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/299448-1979-who-was-there/
Yup. Norman Hunter was missing through injury. As we had no centre half to partner Mick McCarthy, Allan Clarke decided to play Alan Little in the back four, thus weakening both the midfield and defence. Alan Dugdale had signed on a month's loan, but not in time to play in the match..
It were Barnsley Feast week as well Thousands missed that game from Tarn . All walking on Blackpool Front wanting to know score , all you could hear in Blackpool after 3:00pm that Saturday was “Es Tha Eard Owt”
Yep I was there. I was there later in the season too when we beat em at their place and Terry Curran spent the match whinging and crying because he got completely shut out of the game.
I remember standing on the corner bit (Ponty/Brewery) & about 6 scruffy Wednesday tramps calling the Ponty enders 5hit,w@nkers & so on, this owd bloke shouted at em "dunt stand theeur shouting, go in and tell em" they shut up and they trotted off with everyone around them p1ssing them sens.
I was there, stood in the corner of the Ponty near the West stand, with my Dad. Don't remember much about it, but hopefully payback time tomorrow
I was there, and it all kicked off after the game. Bedlam More importantly I was there for the reverse fixture at Hillsborough when we won two nil
I were there. Terry Curran had a field day.... They might be right about having a lot there, in the corner of the Ponty and West stand there were loads of them, there was a bit of a pitched battle when they scored.
I was there in the Ponty. Think it was first league (home ?) game of season (Division Three), we had lost to Lincoln in the league cup previously. First goal was, if I recall correctly, right in front of the Ponty. Big hoof forward, bouncing ball, John Collins (ex-Wednesday, I think) made a complete hash of it and Terry Curran just had to slot it past our goalie. First time we'd played them in the league for years, not a happy experience.
We beat Lincoln City in the League Cup (although we lost the first leg away 1-2) and played West Ham United in the 2nd Round.
Ronnie's debut. Come on then, are you going to answer my question in the Barnsley v Tottenham thread? I think there's six.
I was there and for the revenge game at Swillsborough. 15 at the time and I have to say their away following was pretty impressive! Walks backwards out of room with tin hat on.
Its easy to do a reminiscing thread for the Wendys. We took X thousand with another X outside. We kicked their heads in before/after/during the game Regardless of result or opponent. When usually the only actual truth from the day is the score. They all seem to be the football equivalent of the man on the balcony of the Iranian embassy.
