How well would our team/tactics work in other divisions?

Would it be more successful in leagues one and two or less successful? Same for premier League.

In the Premier League, the first season, and with a few additions to the squad, I think we would comfortably avoid relgation. We would need to get the points on the board early though, as I think teams would have us worked out by January, and it will become a struggle. After that, it all depends on how the strategy can be tweaked to counter the opposition's way of stopping us, but I would fully expect us to go down and be well beaten.

League 1? It would work, but not like it has done at Championship level. Less and less teams will try and play football for the meg-man press to be effective, but on the plus side the forwards would have more chance to play football on the ground than they have this year. No idea with L2, as I don't think I've ever watched a game.

I honestly think that most of the premiership teams will have us worked out already!!

I think we would be found out pretty quickly in the Prem. Think we would be OK to start (5-6 matches), but it wouldn't take them long.
    • some teams would be able to play past our press
    • those that can't would play it long into the channels & have £20M worth of talent chasing it down.
Probably be slaughtered for this, but while I would love us to win promotion, I don't particularly want to play in the Prem. Last time round I absolutely loved getting there, but didn't particularly enjoy the following season.
Also happen to think the Championship is the best league in the world. almost every game is competitive, no idea who will get promoted/relegated. Wish Leeds & SUFC would come back.

I think you’re absolutely right. The reality for teams like us is, if we spent every penny we had, it wouldn’t be enough to complete in the prem. The alternative is not to spend, save the money, get hammered week in week out and come back down with a pocketful.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think we’d get torn apart most weeks playing the way we do now. There are too many teams who would just play right through our press and the majority of teams have enough pace to get in behind our high line. The PL really is a league apart these days. Teams won’t tire like they do in the Championship, they will certainly match/if not beat us for intensity. I think we’d have to definitely change/adapt our style of play. Then it will be a case of getting players in that fit our criteria, who have the experience to play in the league. It’ll be a tall order for sure.

I agree with other posts that our tactics work best against possession based teams and we showed that perfectly against Chelsea so survival in the Prem would certainly be a possibility. We have enough quality to deal with L1. We've not played at L2 level for 42 years thankfully but I think we'd pi55 it....

Biggest difference in PL is a lot have the quality to play out from the back and bypass the press.
Not convinced our goal ratio would be good enough either.

That said number of clubs I think we could compete and win against, so survival would depend on results against them.

We'd need to win the matches against our relegation rivals that's for certain. And then hopefully pick up some others along the way. Won't be easy but not impossible. I thoroughly enjoyed the Prem season, we had the FA cup run and played some cracking football
