Fair play Dan, you're a braver man than me. You couldn't pay me enough to take the abuse GAA refs receive.

Great to have a little Irish corner on here.

Once got thrown out of the Red Lion (rightly) in Worsborough cos of him. It was his local when he was manager of SWFC & a mate of mine was giving him some 'advice'.
Oh the folly of youth ... embarrassed when I think back on it.

Big Jack and Big Mick both with the Worsbrough connection. What's the odds on two Eire managers both living in a Barnsley village? When Jack was Wednesday manager, he donated a few prizes for a raffle for a lad who was paralysed after a rock fall at a Barrow colliery. There was a benefit event for him at Worsbrough Bridge Miners Welfare and I won an autographed Sheffield Wednesday football. Being a Reds fan I didn't really treasure it and played football with it in the local park. The autographs eventually wore off and the blue and white coating started cracking. The ball ultimately ended in the bin, probably where it belonged but given the Massive worldwide support for the Owls I can't help but wonder whether I would have got thousands for it if I'd looked after it. I met Jack a few times and despite his fame and fortune, he was still a working class guy who never forgot his roots.

When the lockdown is done and you're next over we'll all have to arrange a "branch meeting". :)

My grandad was a brigger from a big family. Mick and Jack always bought him a pint whenever they saw him in barrow club :)

Churtonred is a regular poster on here. Lives in County Kerry I think. My family are from Donegal/County Tyrone and we are frequent visitors (during normal times). Proud of my Irish Passport in these Brexshit times!!

In Kerry OG. Sionnach is my other half. I tried keeping her off but she insisted she wanted to join. That being said she strung a good few coherent football sentences together at the start of this thread and she's starting to peep over my shoulder when I'm watching the games on ifollow now so we're making progress.
I'm going to get a right thump now. :)

Lol. Yes, I think so. She is making progress (he said patronisingly). When I moved over her stock answer to any quiz question about football was David Beckham and Ian Botham for cricket. She threw in a Real Madrid answer watching the Chase the other night which took me aback. And, of course, she can now identify Ronnie Glavin in an identity parade. Plus she's interested in cricket now too.
Mind you we still have a stand off about custard and gravy so there's a way to go yet. :)

LOL. Yes, I edited my post to change it from Cork to Kerry but I think you read it a split second before I edited it. Not sure allowing partners on here is a good idea :)

I remember seeing Jack playing Dominoes at the Ship inn. Worsborough with locals. after the Grimsby game 1979. ( last home match promotion season) poor bugger having it rubbed in by some fans. (21k+ crowd at t’well that night.)

Apparently the numbers on here had been dwindling for years as he and his like were taken to task. Now there's a flood of new starters it's supposedly loads of folk on a wind up. Chin up Nudger you're not forgotten but thankfully....gone.
