I was at that one. It was one of my first away games travelling with the Social Club. Kev Eland RIP was hugging us all when we equalised and then went in front.
Bizarre fact about David Geddis. It was his last game for us and he scored two goals against Wimbledon that day. He was signed by Ron Saunders, who was then manager at Birmingham City and Geddis first game for the Blues was at home to Wimbledon, against whom he scored both goals in their 2-1 win!! Four goals against the Wombles in seven days for two different clubs!! Good basis for a quiz question there.
I bet the Dons fans loved him that week lol. Didn't he also score their winner at Oakwell later in the season?
It was a crossover game, a bit like the Huddersfield 7-1. The last game for David Geddis and the first for Rodger Wylde. A 3-3 among mostly 0-0 and 1-0 results, during the 15 match unbeaten run. The Huddersfield game was the only one which Ashley Ward, Craig Hignett and Bruce Dyer played together.
Didn’t know him that well back then, but over the years we travelled on the coach a lot. He always watched us lads play football on the morning of the match. Him and me gassed the mini bus on the way back from Chelsea. Southern beer and burgers didn’t mix well and some of the lads were hanging out of the windows in desperation for some clean air. I liked Kev a lot, he was a good man and rarely missed a game.
It was a good crack on the supporters' bus, as was the Social Club before, after, and during half time lol. First time I went on them was about 1977.
