Some of the comments on here laughable any decent heavyweight beats wilder the guy cannot box he caught a ring rusty fury twice in 19 rounds of boxing that’s it. If fury had the power that whyte or Joshua possessed then in the 2nd fight wilder would have been knocked out rather than beating into submission.. whyte isn’t great technically but he’s a damn sight better than wilder I’m a boxing purist and if I never see wilder fight again that wouldn’t be a bad thing he fought absolutely nobodies for years his CV is worse than fury’s and that’s saying something.. whyte has fought everyone that’s been put in front of him.. whoever mentioned the helenius fight I was at that fight helenius didn’t want to fight just wanted to be as awkward as possible.. people keep talking about boxing like they actually know what they’re talking about because they watch the odd fight like claiming the fury Joshua fight is already destined to be a fury masterclass it isn’t in terms of who fury had fought and who Joshua has fought are in comparable Joshua has fought everyone since he became Champ there has been no stat packing like fighting seferi or pianeta or even schwarz and wallin because Joshua dismantles wallin easy where has he gave fury trouble.. I don’t have a preference who wins between fury or Joshua but I tell you what I’d love Joshua to win to just shut up the ppl that know next to sweet FA
Wilder’s resume is poor for a former world champion but lots of decent fighters have failed to beat him. Whyte hasn’t fought everyone put in front of him. Ortiz, Pulev & Joshua rematch. My reference to the Helenius fight was the straight right hand from a taller orthodox fighter that wobbled Whyte early on. I know Helenius offered very little in the fight as he only took it at a weeks notice & had nothing in the tank. I hope Joshua beats Fury. Fury’s a drug cheat managed by a mass murderer. He claimed he wasn’t fighting due to mental health issues but he couldn’t fight because his license was suspended for doping. I’d favour Fury in that fight but I don’t think it’s a clear cut thing. Wallin is & will prove to be a decent fighter. He looked really good the other week against Brezeale. 6 foot 5 southpaw with good feet, work rate & has a solid chin. I’d tip him to beat everyone Whyte’s defeated except Parker & even that could go Wallin’s way with how bad Parker looked a few weeks back against Fa.
I like boxing despite the obvious brutality. It's saved far more lives than it's hurt. And the real skill is not getting hit. It's amazing to see how many punches are blocked and dodged. Whenever there's a football thread on here you get predictions but it's rare you'll find a post where someone is super confident about the result. But in every boxing thread there's someone telling you exactly what will happen if two fighters who haven't previously met are matched and everyone else knows nothing about the sport because of the views they've aired. Makes the threads unreadable and the last thing you want to do is make a comment, which is a shame as we've got the most anticipated fight in my lifetime coming up.
There's some decent boxing chat on here that's really enlightening. There's also what you mention where it's super dismissive for no reason so I know exactly what you mean. There's also a lot more anger than you'd expect (in this thread anyway). I think the forthright views come because it's 1 v 1 with few variables and often, on paper, pretty one-sided contests. I know football is the same, but it's hard to be that confident when you're relying on 11 v 11.
Fair enough I knew it was around then and hindsight is a wonderful thing but I think he should have taken the shot. Opportunities don't always come along and you have to take them on. Agree with the rest of your summary.
Joshua/Fury is definitely more in the balance than a lot of people suggest. Fury has again been out of action for over 12 months now and while is a massively superior technical boxer to Joshua could still be knocked out by him. That's the beauty of the heavyweights it's always a risk getting in with anyone. Yes Wilder can't box but he's rather unique as a heavyweight that he has the Knockout power coupled with athleticism. The gameplan agaisnt him is fairly simple but your only one mistake away from defeat. He may have caught the rusty version of Fury twice in 19 rounds of boxing but he was also 1 second away from beating him. Fine margins.
Don’t worry about it. There’s no right or wrong prediction especially with the heavyweights as anything can happen.
For someone claiming to have no preference, you give a very good impression of someone having a preference. Which is fine. We all have our favourites. I really like both Fury and Joshua. But as folk on here know, I’ve talked Tyson up for many years. He’s my favourite boxer. So I prefer him when this fight actually takes place. However, I’m not predicting anything. For the first time, I’m actually not sure Fury wins. Mainly down to the lack of activity. He’ll have been out of the ring for a ridiculously long time. But also because I rate AJ very highly. I think it’s clear from their careers to date that they’re both the two outstanding men in their field. Which is why this fight is as big as it is. And I say that knowing that yes, AJ was badly beaten by Ruiz JR first time around. But that was just the perfect example of the old adage “one punch can change a fight” which it did, completely. I think both fighters have their strengths and weaknesses when looking at them head to head. And if pushed, I could type out a few versions of how I could see the fight going. That isn’t to say I don’t back Tyson or that I think he will lose to AJ. Not at all. But for the first time since following him from day one, I am genuinely not sure he wins. And again, that’s why it’s the fight of our lifetimes. I can’t wait. And I hope whatever happens, it’s a spectacular enough contest that we get a second and third helping. Someone winning 2-1 would be ideal. Where the victor is seen as the daddy of his era but where the other is still lauded for all that he did also. There’s genuine respect and friendship between the two fighters also. Despite nonsense on the way during the build up. They both know they are each other’s biggest opponent. Like I say, one for the ages. And I’ve no interest in deriding either fighter or the fight itself. The pair of them have helped to both bring the heavyweight scene back to life and the UK back on the boxing map. PS - Wilder would put Whyte to sleep.
I could almost be classed as anti-Wilder. I've never liked him, never rated him, but still got up at all hours to watch him because despite it being a difficult watch you don't know what you might miss. That KO of Breazeale was just sensational and there are no other words for it. But you're right. The boxing landscape looks a lot different right now if Fury stayed on his back for an extra half a second.
Dirty tactics. I was clearly drunk. I said I loved you! You could have screenshot the ones from 2015 though where I said he’d beat Wlad. Or the ones where I said he’d beat Wilder. I haven’t come around to the 50/50 though. I’m just not sure he wins. An active Fury against AJ and I’d be sure. But you’re looking at something like 18 months out of the ring, going up against the next best competitor. Joshua fought recently. I’m not saying anyone is to blame for that, or making an excuse either. But it isn’t ideal is it? I still favour Tyson regardless, but I can’t be sure. And whilst I have mocked AJ as a competitor in the past, you know deep down I respect him. Also - I am not Nostradamus. I don’t anything for sure. None of us do. That’s the beauty of sport. But in sport, we all pick a side. I picked mine the day I saw Tyson debut.
Come on. As if I was going to be able to resist that open goal? I agree with most of what you say. I'm just super excited for a date and venue to get announced - only to then have that hit of disappointment because it won't be something any of us are likely to be able to try and get tickets for. Biggest British fight since Eubank vs. Benn and I think it is 50/50 and the ring inactivity on Tyson's part shouldn't be an issue. He was always planning to take a minimum of 12 months out anyway.
Carl Froch wants a word. Didn’t you know he knocked out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley? It’ll be in the Middle East won’t it. Then Vegas if Fury gets his wish. Fancy Vegas? I’ll buy you one beer.
I still can't get my head around Froch v Groves being fought in front of 80,000 at Wembley - and I was there! We're mad us Brits when it comes to sporting events. BrewDog Las Vegas should be open by then. Beers on me.
I love threads like this. Boxer A is rubbish because he cant box. This thread its Wilder. You dont win a national Golden Gloves title or represent the states at the Olympics if you dont have anything about you.
As frustrating as it is when we all just want the fight as you say getting in the ring with a 18 month layoff behind him would be a hell of gamble.
He fought 40 other fighters before Fury, knocking them all out. Bronze medalist at the Olympics. He actually put Fury down in the first fight, was a second - arguably - away from winning that fight. Some referees would have waved it off as soon as Fury hit the canvas. In the rematch he got absolutely pummelled yet he continued to come out and fight. It was his corner who threw the towel in. He's not rubbish, he isn't a bum. In this current era, he's been one of the very best and if he fought Fury again or fought Joshua, he'd have a chance. He has unbelievable power and can clearly take a punch. Those trying to rewrite history look silly. He would put Whyte to sleep. He's far too slow and unlike Wilder, Fury and AJ, he stays down when he's been hit.
If what John Fury is saying is true, then put it on hold until later in the year and get him out against Whyte this summer.
