Scourge on the game or vital to protect players interests? They're fighting against salary caps for players and also to their fees. What's morally right isn't always what's legally right, so what do folk think about player agents in football.
Morally, they earn obscene amounts and some of the tactics the top ones use to force player moves is out of order. Legally, I guess it is a bit dodgy trying to cap someone's earnings like that.
I don't get why any player needs a agent. Are they not capable of telling clubs how much cash they want over how many years without one? Can they not read a contact themselves before signing it? Having an agent it seems is a waste of money for the player paying them for things you can do yourself.
If I was a player I'd say what I wanted and pay a lawyer to check the contract. If I was a rubbish player it would be worth the agents fees to get me a good deal and hype me up I suppose.
Pre agents the balance was tipped in favour of clubs. Post agents the balance now favours the players and with the advent of the Prem, Sky and betting sponsorship agents are are on a nice little (big) earner.
Sunderland's owner reckons Josh Maja's agent got €1 million for getting him a move abroad. We need some sort of limit on these fees or they will just keep getting more & more obscene
I can see the benefit of agents for players as they develop contacts etc but i dont like a lot of the practices they get up to.
You’ve never had a solicitor or otherwise trusted and knowledgeable individual look over an important contract you’re going to sign?
Players almost certainly need agents. I’d not buy a house without an expert going over the contract, and I’m certain my house isn’t worth as much as a 3 yr contract for a league 1 striker. but is it morally right that a football agent earns more than a junior barrister? Absolutely not.
I think it’s morally right for players to have agents after all a lot of them are young kids without much life experience. I’d say they should always be responsible for paying them though not the clubs.
Might be able to read it (unless the words have more than 2 syllables) but not many would understand much of it. I think the vast majority of players need some guidance and help with contracts but THEY should be paying for that guidance and advice. Agents shouldn't be allowed to use the media to engineer a move for a player just to make money.
Yes paying for someone to look through an important contact makes sense. But that's once every so often, whilst Football players have full time agents that will take a cut of their weekly wage for I don't know what.
Norwich nearly. £7m the worlds gone mad. I believe agents are there to get the best for their clients ( or should be). But some terrible ones out there with players twiddling their thumbs waiting for that offer that may never arrive, due to the greed, not only of the player, but mainly his agent.
Crikey, we're the 5th lowest at just over half a Million, which is still too much in my opinion. £40 Million in just the Championship alone in 12 months. Football's screwed
