I understand that but why do people spend all their time analysing everything & turning into a political subject , if people just took notice & took their political glasses off then surely there would be no political gain , the Tories are not playing me like a fiddle because I try to treat everything as I see it on its merit , not everything in life is party politics
Hiya Wuz. I drove down into New Mill on Monday morning. Near the bottom of the hill there's a house on the corner and a chap was carefully pointing the stonework on the house whilst standing in the road. I remember this as I thought he must have nerves of steel to be able to concentrate and patiently go about his work whilst all the traffic was going past. If it was you, fair play mate
Dear Readers, living here on the Isle of Man, there are lots of Manx flags on display, with a fair amount of house gardens with a flag pole, displaying the Manx flag. The reason could be that they are proud to fly the flag of this little isle. I think that it is good to see. Me being a proud man from Barnsley and thus Yorkshire, fly the Yorkshire flag on the front wall of my house and have a flag pole in the back garden. This flag pole was inherited from my wifes parents who had it in their back garden flying the Union Flag. I put in my back garden in memory of them and flew their Union Flag until no longer fit to fly. Since then I have a Yorkshire flag flying which was replaced with a Norfolk flag since my inlaws ran a pub in Norwich, supported in the 70s and 80s by Norwich FC players. My wife is a Norwich FC supporter so hopefully we will both be happy next season by playing in the Premiership. Currently my flag pole displays two flags, on top a Toby Tyke flag (COYR) with a Skull and Cross bones, pirate flag underneath. This is probably due to me serving in the Royal Navy for 30 years and have a facination for flags. The Royal Navy used them to identify that it was the Royal Navy here so beware! The RN also uses lots of flags as a useful way to signal messages, but only on a clear day and during daylight! Sorry for the long message but had lots to mention. What ever your thoughts Keep Smiling!
The Union Flag will pretty soon be the Disunion Flag as first the Northern Irish bit is removed and then The Scottish. We'll be left with the flag of St George. From a flag point of view, Welsh independence won't make a jot difference because their flag isn't even represented in the Union Flag. Those that like to see it flying on local government buildings, enjoy it while you can. I'll give it 10 years, no more than that.
That's right the Welsh Flag has never been represented in the Union Flag. The Welsh Dragon was only officially recognised as the flag of Wales in 1959. And the Welsh Language was only given the same official status as the English Language in the Welsh Public Sector in 1993. (o/t and the DUP oppose the teaching of the Irish Language in the schools of N Ireland.)
Yes we quite rightly failed to Anglicise the Welsh after a long struggle. And we never got very far with the Scots either. The DUP are neanderthals, no I retract that, it's an insult to the neanderthals. Sadly I think we will see the demise of the Union, and probably in my lifetime.
I understood the Union flag represents the joining of the Kingdoms of Scotland, Ireland and England. Wales didn't get shown because it is a Principality. Bit mean if true, be nice to have a dragon somewhere on it.
Sinn Fein made huge strides in both the UK and Ireland elections. Next round of elections could well spark a referendum on Irish Unification. I'd wager N.Ireland will go first.
I'd wager N.Ireland will go first.
This government is certainly doing it's best to help them make their mind up.
This government is certainly doing it's best to help them make their mind up.
Nah, DUP, been too supportive of the Tories. Look at the Pit closure vote for example.
Must say, if I was an English Tory, the break up of the UK would thrill me. Hands control of England to them for decades.
Couldn't be bothered reading 7 pages but the flag flying is a bit like players kissing the badge, meaningless . Far more to worry about than a flag flying at the mo. Beating Reading, what homemade cake to have at Tillys tearoom on Saturday, will they have homemade sausage rolls as well ?
