it seems that half of Premiership teams are checking on Deekay especially Everton and Man.Utd.and talk of 17million and Everton thinking of putting a bid in for him.
Not surprised at all. He's got huge potential and all the attributes to make it as a Premier league striker. For his own good he needs to go somewhere he'll play and not end up stuffed away in a Premier league academy doing loans season after season. Seems to have a sensible head on his shoulders and be getting good advice so hopefully he'll make the right next move for himself. I'd hope it would be with us in the prem - but if not he'd almost certainly be better going to a mid-table side where he's going to get games than one of the elite clubs.
If we have agreed a fee - or option to buy - with Orlando then should clubs be coming to us to ask to buy, or is it a case that they can still go to OSC and gazump us? If we have agreed say £10m as an option on him, then if any club comes in then we could be selling for £15m for a quick buck and an interest in his future. If the same figure is used, and someone gazumps us, then OSC need to sell for a hefty fee to cover the probable legal challenge from ourselves. It's not so long since we would have bought him for £10m then sold him to Everton for £3m plus an interest. And we'd have declared it good business.
We've done the spadework for the Prem teams in all probability Yes we may get him back on loan but not sure how it fits in with the club's procurement mode. Let's hope that what we were told comes to pass and he is within our price bracket and wage structure
Didn't we agree a fee for Ljundberg before he played for Sweden against England, then Arsenal joined the chat? Anyway it's up to DD where he goes, and fair play to him. We got to see him in a reds shirt in one of the most exciting seasons for us in years. To paraphrase Brian Glover, we got to see his footballing skills, a rare delight!
We have the option to buy, but the player doesn't have to sign for us. We'll probably have a certain timeframe to trigger that option, then should have first chance to discuss terms with the player. But if Prem clubs are after him, is he really going to sign?
From what Dane Murphy has said about the deal, I would feel pretty gutted if we don't get some form of benefit from any deal. Best case scenario seems to be that we have, as according to Dane, already agreed a purchase fee to make the transfer permanent at the end of the loan and that this is 'within our normal limits' for such deals. So, we get him for, say, £2 million and get offers over £10 million. I don't think that Orlando will be that daft, so second best is that we make the transfer permanent for £2 million and share 50/50 with Orlando any sell-on fee. Third possibility is that we get gazumped, are not able to sign him permanently at the end of the loan and watch him float effortlessly into the Premiership with not a penny dropping into the Oakwell coffers. Take your pick. Positivity, or cynicism???
But what I'm saying is, we might have an agreement with the club, but that doesn't mean we have an agreement with the player. He's not our player and he doesn't have to sign any agreement with us if he'd rather play elsewhere. We've already got the benefit from the deal, as he's improved our team and helped get us into a play off race.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the footballer (and the person) but it seems a lot of money to me. If we got promoted, unless we were buying him as an investment then I would say no @ that price. He has all the physical attributes, but is still very raw & would need to improve most areas of his game. He's not at a point where you'd expect him to thrive in the Premiership and help us avoid relegation. That said, he has the potential to be the most successful striker ever to wear a reds shirt.
Don’t want to lose our USA contacts as being a club you can’t do buisness with imo . If other clubs gazzump us we learn and move on to another target . We’ve done well to land him even for this period so don’t slaughter the golden goose .
The agreed fee doesn't give the club any sort of first refusal or stop other clubs from offering more to trump us. Al it means is we know the price to allow us to start discussing terms with the player. The player can knock us back and move to another club that also agree on a deal with his parent club. It obvious to us, the club and the player that we can't compete with the Premier League clubs. But if we were smart, we could make this work in our favor. (assuming the fee is £5m for ease, and Orlando want £20 from other clubs)Make contact with the of the "Big" clubs who want him, but won't be ready to offer him a start week after week, agree to immediately sell him to them for £10m(from what I understand a player can be registered for 3 clubs in a year), as long as we get him on loan for 12 months. Everyone benefits(barring Orlando I suppose). We get the player for another 12 months, the Player gets his Premier League wages, and we end up with a £5m profit on a player we only "owned" for a short while. Obviously I'm not a lawyer, so no idea of the legality...
I was with you til the last sentence ;-) He's definitely raw, very raw. And frankly, under this style of football, a striker has a thankless task. But he's taking his beating from defenders and getting on with it. He's done ok for me, but he has got potential. I can't see the PL yet, not even close. But if there are some willing to take a speculative punt, the chances of us signing him are somewhere around the nil region.
Whatever happens he's been one hell of a loan signing and proved the benefits of getting quality loan players into the team. Best scenario for us is to get promoted and pray that he fancies staying and being a local hero for a year or two before the mega bucks roll in.
