Lads a real presence up front and certainly makes us more of a threat up front wether his touch is good or not.
I thought the Helik one in the first half was more of a pen. Yiadom was clearly pulling his shirt. Not sure why the commentator insisted on criticising Helik for a poor header when he was quite clearly been fouled. We were the better side but they missed one sitter & another great chance & as well as that, anytime you go near a keeper it’s a foul these days so I don’t really feel hard done to. I think a points probably what we deserved. Lots of huff & puff but didn’t create clear cut chances. The Lucas Joao miss is one of them that gives you real hope that we can do something special. I think you could tell by Moore’s interview at the end that they felt they needed to win with the run in they have. I think that equaliser will give everyone a massive boost. Back to back defeats & people would’ve started panicking. As it is, it’s all in our hands.
We weren't the better side at all. There was very little in it. There were times when we were better and we did get stronger but there were times when Reading were better. This is regardless of missed chances, luck etc. On the balance a draw was fair.
Reading are a good side with some quality players and they defended well. They had opportunities to win it. We played as we always do and we'll beat most sides playing like that. The nerves were on edge because it was an important six pointer. We couldn't afford to lose it.
I like Soulbauer. But if we’re going to play a high line I think we should be playing Sibbick every week. Their winger just drifted in from wide and Soulbauer was nowhere to be seen. Sibbick makes some errors, I think quite often he plays players onside unnecessarily, but he’d have picked up the run and prevented the goal.
I agree with all of that but still happy with a point because we gave them two easy chances. One they took, one they fluffed. It could have been worse. We still need a bit more composure in front of goal, which I hope will come in the last games of the season. Onward and hopefully upwards COYR
Thought game got better in second half Reading were hanging on at the end but I think both teams can make the play offs possibly at the expense of Swansea.
I thought that it was an intriguing joust between two teams with contrasting styles of play - our direct approach against Reading's passing game through midfield. I thought that Reading had worked out a pretty good strategy against us, especially as it meant adapting their normal style of play. They pressed our back three, playing off the shoulder of our back line in the hope of picking up on errors, which did happen three times at least, one of them counting for their goal. They also closed us down out wide, where Brittain often found little space and two players against him. Styles had more joy down the left, but again did not have much space and time in which to work. The Reading players obviously did not like the way they were forced to play, as it cramped their freedom in the middle of the park. I thought that a draw was a fair result, as both sides showed snatches of what they could do without the dominance of many clear goalscoring chances. If we disappointed slightly, it would have been in not getting enough grip and control across the midfield four. Mowatt, though, I thought the best player on the pitch for skill, vision and control. The petulance of their manager was disappointing. I think that, for him, it is a philosophical view in that he wants it to be a contest of passing skill with the ball on the deck. It is interesting, however, that our style really has got into the heads of both opposition managers and their players. We exert a definite hold over opposing teams before they even take to the pitch and that has to be to our advantage. We are not a dirty team, but just high energy and combative in closing down opponents. We are NOT Wimbledon of the 1980s and definitely wouldn't have a Vinnie Jones in the team. It's an honest, fair (almost always), but highly combative style. Our players must not get drawn into the indiscipline, or gamesmanship of some opponents and that could be an issue in the remaining games, especially against teams who are themselves battling against relegation. PS Carlton Morris makes such a difference to the front line - running across the zonal markers and such a combination of skill and strength. Also, how high can DK jump? He seemed to be head and shoulders above defenders several times. Both of these just needed the right quality cross into the box, but Reading did a smart job in closing down our wingers. Draw a fair result
Spot on, when you say they missed a sitted and another great chance can I add we created both of those opportunities from individual errors
I know we gifted them their chances but I think first half they were better. Second half was a different story though. I thought we were very much on top. I’ve seen a lot of the chances mentioned on here but not the Halme one. For a lad of his quality in the opposition’s box, that header should’ve at least hit the target. Main thing is that we didn’t lose to them and they’re still below us.
