Now we are getting towards the end of all that patronising “isn’t it lovely to see a little club like Barnsley challenging for the top” and we’re starting to get an increasingly adverse reaction from others, I’m hoping VI is going to create a real ‘****** to them and what they say about us’ spirit among the players, for the final few games.

Unifying the squad around the idea that all that matters is us and achieving our goal is, I think, the best way of achieving it. That ‘****** to them’ will also sadly I think, have to apply to some of our support, which sometimes seems a little flaky when it’s not going too well. I’m not knocking that and do understand that a number do not like our playing style but the beginning of April is not the time to be having a philosophical discussion around how we’re playing. We can only compete with others when we’re unified so I’d appeal to some of the doubters to just hold it in, until the season’s end at any rate.

We could achieve something extraordinary this season and as we can’t support that effort from the stands, we surely need to do it on here.

I love the way clubs fans are complementary about us on their forums, yet slag us off when it’s their turn not to beat us.

All of a sudden we’re thugs, our managers a lovely person and we play crap football.

It’s like ‘Barnsley are doing really well, but we still expect to win despite them being above us in the league’

It was interesting after the bournemouth match that woodgate (only after) the match used the usual metaphors that had been supplied to him. Yet we footballed them that day and they knocked more long balls than us.....and yet to the cherries we were this over physical direct team.
I think your right dave about teams attitude to us....i do hope we can use it to our advantage (now when did we ever do that to our gain!!!).

Reading forum has one contributor saying we are a well drilled pub side, another worst hoof ball they’ve ever seen and my favourite saying we’d struggle in the premier league.

That final one just shows how far we’ve come because 12 months ago we were struggling to stay in the Championship.

With our budget we have to do things differently, we may not be the most easy on the eye team but it has proved very effective.

7 games to go 4 wins needed. Who’d have thought it?

Read those posts yesterday. Rich from them considering their opener came from a long ball.

The comment about our players and style struggling in the prem is just stating the obvious. Most promoted clubs struggle at that level regardless of style, but let’s be right, IF we did get promoted, this wouldn’t necessarily be the team or the style we start next season with.

It’s just sour grapes. They expected a tough game yet cry when they got one. Weird.

Agree mate. Teams can't beat us. Cry wolf.

How times have changed in just over 12 months. Teams tell us we play lovely football after they've just beaten us....

I for one cannot understand for one minute any barnsley fan knocking us this year which however it ends has exceeded everybodys expectations.Dont give me that bulls*** about playing nice football and losing, fans dont go to watch that, they go to see their team win.We have played to our strengths which all teams do.Would the knockers rather be watching a mid table side or a top six side?

    Can i just ask......
I think earlier on in the season a poster oh here claimed that Reading had to be promoted this season due to FFP, Im sure they are on a massive 3rd year loss, which would result in admin this year.
My question is.....is this still the case?
It seems to have gone quiet and it could also explain why their coaching staff and player's were so (ahem) professional in their game management.

Totally agree. I went to Blackburn last season and saw us outplay them, but lose 3-2. Tony Mowbray said we had "played like Real Madrid in the 2nd half". I mentioned this to a pal of mine who is a Spurs season pass holder, and he replied :"You're getting too many compliments".

In the last few months I haven't seen a single opposing team that's been brave enough to say 'we are confident enough in our ability that we will continue to play our normal game, press us ... if you can'.
Every single one of them has turned to pumping long balls up front & then calling us a pub side. Personally I take that as a huge compliment to our team.

Look at that game yesterday Reading created nothing (they didn't even try to ... from minute 1). Their goal was a hopeful punt up the middle. Their other 2 chances of note came from 2 defensive errors.
If there are stats for number of consecutive passes I'm sure you will see we came out on top.

Unfortunately we are victims of our own success, nobody is brave enough to take on our pressing game.

I'd agree with most of that, but the ball for their goal definitely wasn't a 'hopeful punt'. Lad spotted the run and put it over the top right into his path. Let's be fair.

If we'd scored that goal it would be 'brilliantly direct, superb first touch, gave the keeper no chance'

I’ve just watched Hudds v Brentford. Both clubs have accused us of being direct and in your face when we beat them, yet I’ve just watched both of them scrap out a 1-1 draw with very little passing football on show. This isn’t the premier league, yet some of these clubs really believe they are better than they are.

As far as I know, footballs always been a contact sport, and you have to earn the right to play, yet some of these teams have players that are older and on way more brass than our lads and are crying about having to win challenges.

    Big girls blouses.

I think they are still losing money. Lost £26 million in their last accounts, £30 million previous season.

    Edit - just found this

    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.com/sport/football/52184178.amp

How can you class going from gates of 5k to losing that much money as progression?
What does that serve other than the egos of the Willy waving fans?

I must have missed Readings sexy football !!! Scored from a hoof and only other chances came from our mistakes. I'd have no fear playing them in the playoffs especially if we started with our best team.

Not a hoof at all. They weren't great, but let's be fair, he looked up, saw the run and played a decent ball over the top. Credit where it's due.
