https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/report-orlando-city-won-t-sell-daryl-dike-for-less-than-20-million Something doesn't add up because Orlando can't be holding out for 20 million if Murphy says the reported fee is wrong. Both views can't be correct.
I think what's going to happen is, we've agreed a much lower fee, say £5m (that's just an example). Orlando/the MLS will have to accept as this is the agreed fee. Pressure will be put on Daryl by his agent/Orlando/MLS to reject any advances we make, so he can then be sold to the highest bidder. Let's be fair, one way or another, he won't be here next season, especially if half of the rumoured teams are actually interested in him. So far the teams interested from what I've seen are: Man Utd Chelsea Everton Leeds West Ham Crystal Palace Club Brugge Best case scenario, we buy him for the agreed fee (again £5m as an example), and then we immediately sell him to the highest bidder and include add ons. Can't see that happening myself like.
That's how I see it. If he wanted to join us they will get a set fee, so they pressure him to sign elsewhere with a club they can ask for more cash from.
If any of the above are interested, he’ll be shipped out on loan for a season pretty quickly. He’s good, but far too raw for a top half Prem Side to play him regularly. He’s in the right league now for him to develop, and with the right club. Having said that, if we bought him for £5m, then instantly sold him for £10m, then that would be something else!
Perhaps it’s as simple as either: 1) We have agreed a price and anyone else would be quoted 20 million, if we don’t sign him or 2) We have agreed price and have first refusal unless an offer of 20 million is made
We're a stepping stone. A conduit to greener pastures. Enjoy the lad while he's here, is my advice. Good luck to him, wherever he ends up. Once a Red...
Will we be the Man Utd in a Jon Obi Mikel situation type thing? Orlando sell him for a fortune to someone else and we get compensation because of the already agreed fee? Oh wait, we're Barnsley - we'll have to pay a million quid and one of our squad will get a 3 match ban. Maybe if we finish in the playoffs, the league will have a vote to decide who actually goes up. And yes, I'm still bitter about the standard of 'refereeing' this season.
The whole things sounds to me like an agent trying to create a bidding frenzy for the player. Don't forget that the reports of $20 million for him also mention an additional 20% sell on fee. The latter seems more likely if you take Danes word that the fee agreed is nowhere near teh 20 mil. IF teams are prepared to offer 6-7mil for Dike and we have an agreement at 5 mil + 20% sell on, we may still be deemed the better offer. Another year in the championship may see him valued at the £15-20 mil mark.
I think we should buy him for the asking price, he is only 20 and I believe the financial fare play is calculated over 5 years so as long as he gets better we can sell him off for more than what we got him for within that 5 years we are fine
And whom ever we sell him to sends him back on a season-long loan (to learn the ropes in the Premiership!)
The asking price is reported to be $20 million roughly £14 million , so how are you suggesting we pay this fee & what with ?
From what I’ve seen so far he’s worth a few million with lots of add ons he’s very very raw with the potential to be very good as op says above - everything would suggest his agent is at work, and if so, fair play to them.
There is an agreed fee for us should we choose to exercise our option to buy. But that can't compel Dike to agree personal terms, without which the sale can't proceed. If a Premier League club comes in it's not a wild guess to say they would be offering the lad more money than we will. I can't see him agreeing to sign for us with an understanding that he will immediately be sold on - it wouldn't exactly reflect well on his reliability. And he's only been here a matter of weeks. Sad to say, I think as others have said, it's a case of enjoy him while we can.
There’s been some hype built around him since he’s been with us, and rightly so, he has massive potential. However he’s still very young and very raw, particularly at this level, let alone the Premier league. I can’t see the big 6 showing interest yet, but no doubt the Villa’s and the Leeds of this world just might be. There might be a chance of securing him permanently only if we are promoted of course. For now though let’s enjoy him. He was poor on Friday mind.
Something doesn’t add up with how reports from the US contradict what we’re saying about the option/fee. I’ll be surprised if he’s with us come August. Hope I’m wrong, he’s had a massive impact already.
