https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10139897/worst-matchday-meals-football/ Oakwell getting a mention
Bob on Twitter said this. Pete on Facebook posted this. Ralph replied with this. Is this what journalism is now, repeating social media? There is actually a story here. Food at many football grounds is shocking. Ours has always been terrible. Prices are too high, service is poor leading to long queues and the quality is crap. But ffs, pick up a pen, a notebook and a camera and go report on it. (When we all open back up).
Not sure why anyone would purchase food at a match. Get a meal before you go. While ever folk keep buying this muck, clubs will keep selling it.
Who boils a burger? Everybody used to , those little carts outside grounds didn't have room for a griddle, food at oakwell was better when the old ladies did it (hope that's not ageist or sexist) soup you could stand a spoon up in, except that time I bought a pie in the ponty end , first match of season, I think it was leftover from season before, I took it back but she didn't want to change it, until I banged it on the counter and sounded like a brick , I think she thought I might attack her with it.
Quite a lot of people travel quite far and might want something to eat as it’s a long time to go if you factor in the travel there and back on top of 2 hours for the match. On evening matches I didn’t used to have time to eat before setting off by the time I’d got back from work. My mam’s diabetic and whilst I think taking food into Oakwell is allowed, I don’t know if it is at all grounds and if her blood sugar dropped she would need food (she carries lucazade and glucose tablets but those only give you a quick fix for 10-15mins until you can get some proper slow release carbs). Food at half time can be used to bribe kids into good behaviour and just make the whole day more fun for them. Queuing up and getting something warm at half time can be appealing on the really cold days. It can help sober up people who’ve spent half the day in the pub who didn’t eat before setting off or during as ‘eating’s cheating’ but can get away with summat at half time before getting back on it again. Loads of reasons why people might want food, hence why they sell it and people buy it despite the high prices and bad quality.
At the very least buy your food before getting in Oakwell. The area surrounding Oakwell including the town centre is full of decent places to get a sandwich or fish n chips or a pie. No need to queue for the lukewarm overpriced and bland efforts inside the concourses.
This, wi' knobs on. Stop buying that scheitt and they might do something about it. Been to plenty of grounds where you can get a decent pie at a decent price. Mouth-watering now at the very thought of the chicken balti pies they did at Fulham....
Once bought a packet of crisps at Loftus Road and they tasted manky. Checked expiry date and they were about 6 weeks out of date. Sure some clubs probably had a policy of offloading stuff like that to away fans
If people aren’t passing through town though it’s a bit of a trek. If you’ve driven quite a way and then parked up at Oakwell, you’re not going to walk a 20 minute round trip into town for a sandwich.
Some food is sold by outlets who have paid a hefty price for the concession. Often why it's **** or overpriced.
Oakwell Sandwich Shop is near and a number of chippies are walking distance. As a last resort make something at home to take to the game. Infact the last resort would be to go hungry until after the game and even that is better than what Oakwell serves.
Not sure why anyone would buy food in Oakwell when you've got the Oakwell Sandwich shop at the end of Grove St. Now why's it not called the Grove St sandwich shop..........
I know it's footy food and we shouldn't expect too much, but I'm always a bit disappointed with the veggie option at Oakwell..... If it's Pukka Pies, any chance of stocking a veggie one? Cheese leek and potato, vegan mince, vegan chicken - great stuff
George Spicer is supposedly going to have a word about a vegan range at games so people can have soya milk in their lemon tea.
