I'm glad we are where we are. I want us to go up and if we do it with this style of football fair enough but the game against Birmingham, Dike's goal apart, was one of the most diabolical games of football I've ever seen in my life. Dress it up how you like but when even our own comms team say at half time that the game completely lacked any semblance of quality and it was only what was expected it sort of says it all. there are times when we're good, times when we're effective and times when we're awful and effective. I wish people would recognise that.
Will be our highest finish since 2000 this season. But people still moaning were not playing tika taca barca style football. Like I've already said I'd rather we be more direct than passing it around the back 4 inviting pressure on ourself and conceding soft goals.
Reading’s goal was a long smash down the middle. It works, even for the so called ‘footballing’ teams. Edit: “long AIMLESS smash down the middle.”
They do. But people are also capable of enjoying the results irrespective of individual opinions on how football should be played. You struggle to recognise that.
I don't. I enjoy the results as much as anyone. I'd just like us to be a bit more objective about how we've got where we are. If we play nine more games of head tennis and win them I'll be delighted. This manager and coaching team are astounding. I've never seen a Barnsley team transformed in the way Ismael has managed.
Everytime we used to need a manager over the last 5 seasons mick McCarthy was mentioned by many fans. Managers like McCarthy and Neil warnock have made a career out of direct football. I've been watching us 24 years and could count on one hand the seasons we have played genuinely good football to watch throughout. Just get the results its a very nice feeling been in the play offs with the likes of Bournemouth who's squad is worth over 100million.
Totally agree. About time we went back to Keefy Hills tactics of 78% possession with our 4 man defence had probably 50% between themselves, while the opposition forwards sit down on.the half way line totally bored.
It's because after one outstanding season at Champ level, a minority of our fanbase has become "entitled".
As I said in another thread, I’ve watched lots of games of late. Some of them involving some of the clubs that accuse us of being direct. None of them are as pleasing on the eye as they like to think they are. Other clubs fans have one reason in common to pick holes in our approach, it’s usually a case of sour grapes after little Barnsley have turned them over, but for our own fans to be too critical seems a bit like biting the hand that feeds us. Sometimes it’s not pretty, but it’s breaking club records and making a mockery of the idea that you have to spend lots of money to have a go at getting out of this league at the right end.
Is it our fault the opposition can’t effectively clear our attacks & we head it back towards their goal?
Jesus Christ its an opinion about something thats creeping into our game not a slagging off. im with you all over the moon where we are, and if it all ended today it would have been brilliant to compete with teams back at this level. But are you watching a different game to me. Since everyone took notice of our excellent pressing game as we climbed the table and the big boys became worried and started combating it with the ball over the top, we haven't coped too well albeit still churning out the results. "head tennis" something ive spotted similar to pre Val days when we wernt so good, when you watched our opponents pass the ball around to each other when what we did was pass the ball in the general vicinity of a Barnsley player, and it never got there. Hope thats a better explanation. You are all entitled to your opinions as am i, but be constructive.
