How much publicity has this guy got us. "What a pointless signing" Still one of my favourite quotes from the BBS when he signed.
That’s a wonderful bit of journalism. Darryl is a smart, very likeable kid, with a great future ahead of him. As long as he doesn’t meet me & Shenk in the pub, we’d ruin him..
Just given them the normal stuff to start with.....will put it out when they have finished their first dish full.....probably in the next 10 minutes Now that's how to take a thread off topic
Spik-ee is the best I’ve got at the minute. Leave it with me. Welcome to Barnsley, Daryl, if you’re nosing in.
Up there with one of the best centre forwards I've seen play for Barnsley. But I don't particularly like the headline as I think we'd be right in the mix with or without him. I'm not underestimating him, I think he's brilliant, but the performances of many other players in our team have been brilliant too.
"What did the Romans ever do for us?". Monty Python classic line with a classic answer. Roads, sewerage, culture etc etc "What did our owners ever do for us?" ........
Thanks for posting the article Gordon. Special praise for Dane for opening up the link and seeing it through. Great planning by him combined with the determination to get DD on board and integrated. Many will disagree with me on here but I think we're in good hands.
The whole club are working to a principle I completely agree with: do not spend more money than you bring in. It's just so basic and so obvious, and finally we've got owners who understand it. Patrick Cryne used to say how he had to supplement our income to the tune of £1 million, £2 million or whatever every year and it used to drive me to distraction. "No you fk*cing don't". Stop lying to us like this. Just make the spend balance the income. It's not difficult. As much as people tell you it's difficult, it really isn't. It's simple. But we were lied to. And if you think I'm changing my tune after the fact there are fifteen years of my posts saying exactly this. The new owners have also got a good philosophy with regard to player recruitment. But this is an extension of what began under Patrick Cryne, this is what he did well. Life isn't black and white, it's grey. The current owners are going to make a lot of money out of Barnsley football club. It's an investment to make money. They're running it well but the ultimate reward will go to them not BFC. Like I said, life isn't black and white, it's grey. Everything we achieve, the profit will go to them. For a Barnsley fan, how can you like that? How can you think that is a good thing? This isn't to make us better, it's to make some people richer. I just don't understand how this can be conceived as a good thing. Our club's future is going to make a select few people have a comfortable retirement. I genuinely don't understand how people don't get this.
By all accounts, Chien Lee and Paul Conway haven't taken a penny out of the club (barring when Conway was being paid a salary to do the chief exec role), so they're only going to get paid when they sell the club. Surely then, it's in their best interests to have a well run club, playing at as high a level as possible. That way it's a more attractive business proposition when they do come to sell. They're businessmen running a business essentially. I suppose the worry is, who they sell the club to.
