This thread didn’t get any better. The excuse is obviously lockdown but some people really need to give their heads a shake
Was he a parasite during the war? Do you know about that? Or are you too busy calling female assistant referees bitches?
I’m finding it a bit hard to get upset about the death of a privileged racist pervert. It certainly doesn’t need to be every article on every news website and on every channel. It’s embarrassing and pretty ridiculous. It’s sad for the family and I feel for them on that. Especially the Queen after losing her partner of 74 years. I also have no problem with an obituary the same as anybody in the public eye but this is far too excessive. The 8 top articles on BBC news right now all the same story. I think the Scottish Greens have the best statement: “We recognise that the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh will be felt deeply by some across the country and express our sympathies with his family, who join many others who have lost loved ones in this last year.”
Agree with this. Just another aristocrat who's shuffled off after a long life. I've got no problem with a bit of an announcement and everybody taking five minutes to say how sorry they are that somebody's died, but let's get some perspective.
As a resident of North Norfolk, not far from Sandringham, I must say it’s a relief that the roads will be safer.
I'm not a royalist, I actually think royal families (all, not just ours) are an archaic throwback that should be phased out, but I do appreciate that some people love them. As such, I'm as sad about this as I am about anyone who loses a loved one. That's all I've got.
Bit over the top, recalling parliament for them to pay tribute now, obviously it will be different and justified when Betty goes but he's just the bloke that was very lucky enough to marry her
I think if you just take a couple of minutes out of your day and skim through the many obituaries out there -I read the BBC one - you'll get a better appreciation of the man and his life. Particularly if you have been dismissive or negative about him, you can change your opinion about him, I certainly have. A life well led and not without a lot of sacrifice and tireless devotion.
‘kin ell. Just dropped in but don’t think I’ll go back and read from page 1. We really do have some awkward sods on here.
It doesn't need to be on the news so much but is it directly effecting you, no. I'm no royalist at all but I would not speak bad of the dead or disrespect them. Maybe many on here have been brought up diffrent. Got Nothing nice to say.......
He was virtually penniless when he married our Bet, but he did well for himself for a former refugee, wealth and privilege beyond imagination , he did serve in ww2 so did hundreds of thousands more and came back to nothing, you cant knock him for it
You are allowed your opinion, and so am I. I’ll tell you what is really embarrassing, in my opinion - the over the top reaction from the media. But I’m sure you are enjoying it, as is your right.
I don't give a **** either way to be honest so they played a load of sad songs on radio yesterday while I was working and mentioned Prince Philip on the news quite alot and corrie wasnt on didnt bother me one bit. I just wouldn't speak bad of the dead of someone's grandad, dad, brother etc.
