Morris, like Dike has come into a winning team. Cauley, like Mowatt has been a star through thick and thin. Don't see the need to get on his back personally.

I wasn't I simply said Morris was worth a start over cauley and it could spur him on . And as usual the same tripe get on the defensive

The thing about Woodrow is that he is not getting any clear scoring chances, either set up for him or ones he's made himself. If he was getting 3 or 4 clear-cut chances laid on a plate for him and he's fluffing his lines, then I'd be worried and say he's out of form(being a striker).

The way we play though means that he is no longer the focal point of our attacks. When he plays, he's usually the deepest of the front three, so he's been restricted to longer-range efforts, set-pieces, and penalties(with a few exceptions).

    I trust Val.
If he thinks the best way is to start with Woodrow and bring Morris on when they’ve tired a bit, then that’ll do for me.

A thread started on the abilities of Carlton turns in to criticising Cauley.

Val has taken us from relegation prospects to the cusp of securing a play-off place, he trains and watches the players day in day out and his livelihood depends on us getting results.

I think he probably knows what he’s doing (track record would suggest so) and is better placed than most to pick the team.

I see what you're saying and agree with the sentiments, but we're on a forum. Discussing team selection and things like that is what this place was made for...

Val thinks he should start and he offers something to the team - that's good enough for me. He offers more than goals as I pointed out previously with the stat about goals he's been involved with. Cauley is definitely a player I'd rather have in our team than face

So if he set up 200 goals a season that saw us promoted you'd want shut of him because he's employed as a goalscorer? That's one of the craziest statements I've heard on here in twenty odd years

Have you considered that VI may be deliberately holding Morris back to bring him on against tiring defences in the second half - we seem to score a lot more goals after half time. No guarantees if we started with Morris and Dike we would score the goals in the first half
We are operating a system that seems to be working well not sure why you want to change it

Woodrows goals to game ratio is fantastic. He thrives on been in and around the 6-18 yard box mostly centrally. Under different systems sometimes he isn't offered that opportunity. He's up there with the coolest finisher I've seen in my years watching the Reds.

And don't mention penalties. It's a skill of its own. Ask Dike.

I believe our best front 3 is Dike, Morris and Woodrow. Makes me wonder if Morris is carrying a injury and Val is looking after him but he is a impacted player when he comes on.

We look miles better when Morris is on the pitch. The ball sticks, he looks up and measures a pass. If we had two of him we could play one first half and one second.

Once more, as a complete numpty I find myself confused.

We play with a front 3, (a pick from 6*), that’s 3 players who train every day to either shoot or pass to a better option. But just as important is their movement off the ball, where the job is to run defenders ragged, and when they’re tired and become less effective at this, they’re replaced (that’s why we have 6).

Surely the ‘best’ use of this system is to ensure that all 6 are fit and ready to go, but more importantly, that we have the strike power still on the pitch when the defenders are shot (so the strongest 3 aren’t necessarily the best starting line up)?

Secondly, at the end of the season, we’re almost certainly going to lose the best of our current 6, and people are arguing that the best IMHO (or even if you don’t like him, 2nd best) of what’s left ‘isn’t good enough’?

if all the above is correct, the suggestion is that we’ll need 5 strikers better than Woodrow in the summer?

if that is correct, where’s the money coming from for 5 >£5m strikers. What’s more; where do we even go looking for 5 strikers of that quality.

To be fair dike has scored more open play goals since joining in January than woodrow has all season. Maybe like people say we aren't playing to woodrows strengths but he did play alot deeper under struber and fans moaned about that and said we weren't playing to his strengths then, for me he hasn't been as good recently in his all round game. Cant knock his penalty conversion rate though.

I think all six strikers are doing a great job hence the league position, their work rate is phenomenal and they all work for the team.

Can't fault any of them at the minute - they're all contributing to a brilliant season.

While Morris and Dike have clearly had an impact, we established ourselves in mid table, with an incredible consistent run of form with Woodrow, Frieser and Chaplin starting the majority of games, with Vic and Thomas off the bench.

Specifically on Morris, I think he'd be first name on the team sheet if there were only 3 subs allowed.
