my mates a scout I go with him occasionally his view that there was athleticism by no ability to channel that or play as part of a team. He was surprised he had made it to professional level.

I figured Lita to be a bad expensive signing but Treacy I expected to lead the team for years

I thought O’Grady was very good for us. Scored a decent amount of goals for a struggling team and his hold up play was superb.

Totally agree with the rest though.

Lots of posts for Odejayi. I agree in the context of the thread title. I really wanted him to come good, looked superb on his day, and still not sure why it didn't work out. I post with one caveat. He scored a great goal to earn us our first trip to the new Wembley and went on a bit of a spree after that kept us up that year, so not all failure.

    Mido for me.

Probably should’ve known he’d be awful but all the circus that followed, I had hopes he’d be decent for us.

I don't think Tinkler lived up to expectations, injured too much, especially when it got cold.

We can add Janne Salli to that list. Looked like a real quality find in his first few games but got a nasty injury and never played for us again.

Peter Sands for me , I kept thinking that once he gets match fit he will speed up & improve but alas he was totally pedestrian & never improved , in fact I would go as far as to say I have never seen a player as slow & never likely to

Dale Jennings definitely. He’d had a bad start to the season but he began to show some promise l, lost some weight & won player of the month towards the end of the relegation season & I genuinely thought him & Keith Treacy would tear league one apart the following season.

Unfortunately Jennings suffered with injuries & Treacy suffered with depression & neither have played at any kind of decent level since

Maceo Rigters another one. I’d watched him in an underage tournament for Holland before Blackburn signed him & he looked brilliant. I though we’d got a gem when he signed.

Unfortunately he was useless. I don’t even think he scored in 20+ appearances.

Not sure I rate your friend as a scout then - thought Thiam's biggest problem was that he was 2 yards too slow!

he’s been a scout for a long time at a level above ours.

    Athleticism doesn’t equal pace.

No, but it's one extremely important part of it in a game of football, especially for a winger/striker who's 5''7
