93-1 off 15 overs, Lyth continuing his great start. Of course Stevens will take 19 wickets in the match and score a double hundred.
Canterbury is a road of a pitch. Both teams should be aiming for maximum batting points. Not sure how we will fare given the weakened bowling line up - probably a draw?
150-4 now with Lyth falling three short of a century and Root failing again - 11. Just go Joe - tear up your contract. You clearly can't be bothered to play for the county that made you so let someone else have that spot who actually wants to play.
Really harsh! He's always made himself available whenever he's not with England. There's a difference between getting out and not caring. He's hardly taking a place either given Ballance is injured and our consistent middle order batting collapses.
Ok, a bit harsh I'll grant you but he just doesn't do it at county level any more. I can't be bothered to look back on his record but it's not good for Yorkshire in recent times. Class is permanent, I agree with that, but he needs to start scoring some runs soon. That's three innings and three low scores since the season began. Yorkshire are in a pretty poor state in general so maybe he will come good soon. I hope so.
He's hardly "in" Yorkshire any more is he, like all the other centrally contracted players. How much better would our side look with Rashid and Bairstow in it, but they're elsewhere while still retaining their Yorkshire contracts. Root is a great player, I am not denying that, but I don't agree with this control the ECB have over England players. It's like they are saying off you go and have some fun, or make shedloads of money, but you be back here for your tea, or else.
Must agree Helen. Root is a top class player and I wouldn't ever accuse him of not trying. Oppinion though.
pulled it round again - 210-4 now. Tattershal cautious, Brook playing his shots. It's live on Youtube for anyone interested.
It's just the nature of the game though, and they have hugely diminished County contracts that reflect they are contracted to the ECB. We can fight against it or embrace it. I think there'd be an argument if we had been really successful recently and it was unbalacing a winning team. And its also important for England that Root is getting red ball cricket ahead of a test summer. Personally I'm proud when Yorkshire players are playing for England. And fair play to Root because when it was snowing last week it would have been the easiest thing in the world for him to say he's resting up after a long winter.
So you are saying any centrally contracted England player should never play for their respective county.
In his last 10 FC games for Yorkshire prior to today, he's scored 685 runs @ 45.67. During those games, the rest of the team, including extras, have scored 3,821 runs @ 29.85 per wicket.
Unbelievable , Root is a class act & the last thing he wants when he is having a bit of a sticky patch is his own turning on him , he has done great when he turned out for us in the past & will come good again & hopefully one day when his England career is in decline he will return & take the helm with the white rose .
